A WOMAN tried to stall police officers when they attempted to search her and her boyfriend’s residence for illegal drugs, a court was told yesterday.

Britney Strachan is currently on trial before Magistrate Kendra Kelly after she denied allegations of behaving in a disorderly manner and using obscene language.

The charges stem from an incident on January 11.

When Police Constable Terez Fowler gave evidence, she said around 1.10am that day, she and a team of officers executed a search warrant on an Antigua Street home. She said when they arrived, they informed the occupants that the residence would be searched for illegal firearms and drugs.

PC Fowler said after officers realised the residence had a split level, they attempted to make their way upstairs to continue their search. However, she said Strachan tried to “hinder” them from entering the stairway and began cursing and acting aggressively by “throwing her hands around and acting like she wanted to fight the officers” when they tried to pass.

PC Fowler said she warned Strachan to stop her disorderly behaviour, but the accused persisted. She said she then cautioned and arrested her.

The court was told that other officers entered the upper portion of the residence where they allegedly met Strachan’s boyfriend flushing a substance down the toilet.

PC Fowler said Strachan herself was taken to the Carmichael Road Police Station.

The case continues December 10.
