IN the wake of news reports about alleged mistreatment of patients at Princess Margaret Hospital’s Maternity Ward, the Public Hospitals Authority issued a statement saying it has initiated an internal inquiry to identify any deficiencies in care.
PHA said it takes such matters seriously, adding that it has a standard operating procedure relating to “poor care or neglect.”
The procedure states that any form of insubordination, patient mismanagement, or lack of following proper standards of care will not be tolerated.
“At the time of the initial discovery of a bad outcome, an initial counselling session with the client must be conducted by the physician team,” PHA said.
“A second more formal counselling session may occur, if necessary, conducted by a senior physician or consultant with the client and family members. All staff working in the obstetrics and gynaecology department will implicitly abide by the rules and laws of the obstetrics and gynaecology department as well as the rules and laws of the PHA/PMH.
“Employees who fail in their duty to clients or breach policy will face swift punitive action as guided by the PHA/PMH/HR disciplinary procedures.”
PHA said it has also implemented an internal inquiry process “to identify deficiencies in the delivery of care to our clients, including the overall management of the Maternity Ward and the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).”
The public can report concerns regarding services at Princess Margaret Hospital at the client feedback line at 242-825-3438.
This comes as a protest is planned for Rawson Square at noon on Saturday regarding the conditions at the Maternity Ward.

The mistreatment of patients is PMH's modus operandi. Unless y'all prepared to do a decades long investigation, this is just window dressing.<br/><br/>
The leadership of PMH never cared about the mistreatment of thousands of patients in the past, so I don't know why they **faking** it now??🤦♂️

This is odd. The reports about patient care were aired months ago. One lady came on a talk show to speak of her baby dying because of what she described as incompetence and lack of concern. It takes months to reach out to a patient?...
If they are serious "now", they better do something about the quality of their medical school training program. They also need to do something about recertification of long standing doctors. Bahamians are very trusting of people in white coats. We already see 400 people dead from COVID based on "scientific" party on decisions of one doctor.

They can quote SOPs up the whazoo, in my experience, SOPs are only enforced for employees on the wrong side of the HR manager. What an independent body needs to determine is what is the CULTURE, the unwritten procedures, like *dont bother me at night I trying to sleep*, same as at govt house guard house.... I HOPE PHA is serious because lives are at stake and people been dead .

I remember going in for a.sprained ankle and.the Doctor had an xray of my shoulder and.arm. i remember my son going in for surgery , being allergic to penicillin nurses told, and.still getting a.prescription for penicillin. I can go on, but that place is like a government office, no one cares. Well, the.only things they care about are, increase pay, vacation and.perks, not people.
