A MAN was fined $200 in a Magistrate’s Court yesterday on a drug charge.
Davardo Brown, 42, appeared before Magistrate Kara Turnquest-Deveaux on a charge of possession of dangerous drugs.
At around 9.30am on August 8 near the Prince George Wharf, Brown was pulled over in his vehicle after he was spotted not wearing a seatbelt. A subsequent search of his vehicle by authorities for suspected drugs and firearms uncovered two bags - one a small red bag and the other a small clear ziploc bag both containing a grassy substance near the driver’s side door. This substance was confirmed to be two grams of Indian hemp leading to Brown’s arrest. In court, the accused pleaded guilty to the charge.
After prosecution revealed that Brown had no antecedents, the Magistrate fined him $200 or three months in prison.
Brown was further informed that he had within seven days to appeal his sentence and that the drugs would be destroyed.
