SUPER Value owner Rupert Roberts says the prices of items such as rice, cooking oils, tomato products and evaporated milk will see an increase in the coming weeks.
Elevated costs are expected, he said, up until next March.
In an interview with The Tribune yesterday Mr Robert with one of the grocery store chain’s buyers gave a glimpse into how prices have fluctuated.
“Evaporated milk we had a major price increase and still are having a price increase now on milk,” the buyer said.
The buyer further explained that Super Value was also recently informed from one of its suppliers that the price of rice will increase by at least 15 to 20 percent by the end of this month.
Despite the inflation of grocery item prices and higher daily living expenses in the country, some customers are still apprehensive to buy off brand products, Mr Roberts said.
“We have a lot of off brand oil, but they’re reluctant to buy under the national plan,” he continued.
Mr Roberts told The Tribune he was hopeful that inflation would level out.
“We hope that it levels out by the first quarter of next year and that’s what we see happening, unless a catastrophe in the world like the war changes it.”

> Mr Roberts told The Tribune he was hopeful that inflation would level out.
And so what if it levels out at 20%!
Let's assume for a moment inflation it does level out at 20%. That only means the annually compounded rate levels out at 20% which does not do any of us a damn bit of good.
In other words the less than frank and truthful Rupert Roberts is only telling us a $100 weekly grocery bill this year would be $120 next year, and $144 the following year, and $173 the year after that, and so on.

I buy some things off brand, if it does not make any difference.
cheap evaporated milk and island condensed milk, I do not buy because they reconstitute powedered milk with yucky vegetable oil and it separates.
So i look at the fine print, and choose the milk product.
Powdered detergent and bleach too, no need to buy brand name.
But all vegetable oils is bad, why buy brand name? I have yet to see off brand corn oil, otherwise i would buy it. truth be told, i even suspect that there is no difference between soy oil, corn oil or even olive oil.
I buy different rice also, but test to see if it is plastic.
But the point is that the increse in price is across the board, so , even if i buy a cheaper product, my bill still going up.

I also do not forgive the grocers for telling the govt that poor folks do not buy whole chicken, so the duty was only reduced on the poverty chicken parts, i.e., wings and leg quarters.
We do buy whole chickens, but we get the butchers to cut it up to make curry.
On the otther hand, they dropped the duty on almond flour, which costs twelve dollars a pound. Makes nio damn difference if there is duty because I will not pay 12 dollars for a pound of flour.
So, the finicky and rich vegans get duty free asparagus and keto muffins, and i have to make curry with chicken wings and broken rice.
BTW, the chicken feet are selling for 4 dollars a pound. Chicken feet , the utimate poverty food.

And cruel Davis could not care any less.
If you complained to cruel Davis, he would just look you straight in the eye and tell you be thankful you still have relatively cheap chicken feet to eat !!
And you can tell by how big roly-poly Davis's waistline has become that he and his press secretary Clint are eating much more than just chicken feet !!!

Don't know why Roberts is buffering when he started increasing prices months ago. I watched a small tin of Distinction evaporated milk increase from 51 cents to over 70 crnts in weeks. It seems like the minute the shelves are cleared it takes a few weeks to see the item restocked and when it cones back the price is higher. It's like they hope you don't notice. His statement brings no warning to shoppers. They been upping the prices for quite some time now.

The next is corn , canola and vegetable oil. He is giving 10 % discount.
Next batch will cost 30 per gallon, up from 20.
I got some OK brand flour at 3.49 to 3.79 for 5lbs. It was restocked at 5.35.
