POLICE on Bimini apprehended five illegal immigrants on that island on Tuesday.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Stephen Rolle confirmed that officers took five men and one woman into custody after receiving reports of suspected illegal immigrants.
According to reports, shortly before 3pm on Tuesday officers at the Alice Town Police Station received a report of a vehicle in the area of a local resort with illegal immigrants inside.
On arrival at the resort, officers observed several persons exiting the vehicle and running into an apartment unit situated on the premises.
ASP Rolle said officers later proceeded to the apartment where they heard noises emanating from the inside.
“They entered the residence through a front door, and they observed several persons exiting through a western rear door. A chase ensued which resulted in the apprehension of four adult males and one adult female, all of whom are Ecuadorian nationals.”
Mr Rolle said the immigrants were handed over to the Bahamas Department of Immigration for further Investigation.
He said investigations are continuing into the matter.
