Certain questions linger as a result of the settlement of a case brought by the incoming Commissioner of Police and Another against the Attorney General and others.

Firstly, the timing of the settlement. Was it done at this time so that the incoming Commissioner would not de facto be suing himself?

Secondly, it is not unusual for private citizens to include non disclosure clauses in settlements, but Is this appropriate in cases involving the public interest and the public purse? Also since we hear so much about transparency why can’t the taxpayers know how much they are paying for settling this matter.

Thirdly, as previous reports had indicated that the present Minister of National Security was counsel for the litigants, was a Notice of Change of Attorney filed? We wouldn’t want a conflict of interest claim to rear its ugly head.

Inquiring minds would like to know.
