A SHOOTING incident took place at Grace Community Church in Marathon on Thursday evening resulting in two men being taken to hospital.
Details of the incident were outlined in a private note from Pastor Lyall Bethel to the membership and leaked to social media. The pastor confirmed to The Tribune that the incident occurred.
According to the letter, the shooting happened at about 8.32 pm “when a young boy ran up on several of the young men from the neighbourhood who were playing basketball, and discharged his firearm some six times.”
Pastor Bethel said in the note that two men were hit and taken to hospital, adding that security cameras were able to capture several angles and the footage was turned over to the police.
“What made the incident so alarming is the many different functions that were going on at the time, the men’s chorale pnd Pastor Carlyle’s small group were meeting in the Herbert Treco Auditorium and the youth Praise team were practising in church,” he continued.
“We believe that this incident is probably an isolated incident, but we will be shutting down the basketball court on a temporary basis so that there will be no gathering of young people there until such time as the police and your leadership believe it advisable to do so.
“All the pastors, and several of the Elders and Deacons and other leading men of the Church were there before or shortly after to assist the police with their initial investigations.”
Pastor Bethel has insisted that the church remains safe despite the incident.

You only need be in the wrong place when these feral animals are on the prowl and your life will be snuffed out just like the poor woman that got shot heading to church some months ago. The worthless "parents" that spawned these creatures should be sterilized.

More than ever we need mandatory youth service, teach young men to be men, and young ladies to be ladies.
Road works. Civil works. Hard work. If you have no IQ you can develop muscle.
If you have IQ, the hard work won't hurt you.

And sadly is the parents of these feral children that carry on stink about the suggestion of youth service. It's like they don't want their kids to be disciplined. Maybe the parents depend on the kids for revenue?
Crazy society we have here.

This wasn't "*shooting at church*:, this was "*shooting at basketball park*". The targets werent going to prayer meeting. Using *church* is click and drama bait. But we definitely headed in the wrong direction

From another story, slightly off track:
"*Shortly before 8am, police were alerted by Shot Spotter to multiple gunshots in the area of Williams Lane off Kemp Road.*"
I really question our use of technology and the thought we put into system design. Anyone who's heard gunshots knows the sounds echo for miles. These areas are so densely populated, the police most likely got multiple calls from concerned residents. Why the need to point out that the police were alerted by "shotspotter"? Everytime they mention that, the reporter should immediated ly ask how many phone reports did you get? Even one would suffice. Shotspotter's detection capability is not an effective use of the technology in our house on top of house society and was misused for this purpose. A better application would have been "*from the break*" to integrate with video technology. But someone in the room would have had to have been non star struck by technology or the foreign presentation team, and asking hard questions. Said so years ago but years later we still justifying this *detection* angle

It is possible that they use multiple acoustic device. Any device that has the highest sound origin is the area they assume the gunshot is from. I wouldn't say its too unreliable as we don't have a lot of tall obstruction/structures to echo back the sound.
