NEW York Mets prospect Warren Saunders received the highest promotion of his minor league career thus far.

Saunders was assigned to the Syracuse Mets, the Mets’ Triple-A level of the International League.

The 6’3”, 23-year-old infielder finished 2-4 with an RBI in Wednesday night’s 4-2 loss to the Rochester Red Wings at Frontier Field in Rochester New, York. He spent the previous 31 games this season at the High-A level with the Brooklyn Cyclones of the South Atlantic League. He hit .204 with a .587 OPS, six doubles, four RBI, nine runs scored, and one home run.

After starting the season 3-28 through the first nine games, he had a strong conclusion to conclude April in the series against the Bowling Green Hot Rods.

In game two, he went 2-4 with a pair of doubles on April 28 and took that momentum into the series against Aberdeen when he had his multi-hit game. That run continued in May with his first three-hit game, when he went 3-4 and scored a triple with a run in a 3-2 loss to the Wilmington Blue Rooks.

He had a solo shot in the Cyclones’ 8-4 win over the Jersey Shore Blue Claws on June 4 at ShoreTown BallPark in Lakewood, New Jersey.

In the preseason, Saunders received the call up to join the New York Mets for Spring Training in the Grapefruit League with a sharp line drive to left field for his first hit with the big league club.

In 2021, he spent the season with the St Lucie Mets in the Low-A Southwest League where he hit .249 with a .632 OPS, 44 RBI and three home runs.

Playing Low-A baseball for the first time in his young career, he has multiple infield positions and became an integral part of a lineup that featured several of the organisation’s top 30 prospects.

Saunders ended May with a seven-game stretch where he went 11-32 at the plate, with two doubles, one triple, eight RBI and scored seven runs.

He spent the 2019 season with the GCL Mets of the Gulf Coast League.

In 33 games, he hit .323 with a .783 OPS, 41 hits, 56 total bases, 20 RBI and scored 25 runs.
