A MAN was granted bail in a Magistrate’s Court yesterday after facing firearm and ammunition charges.

Patrick Sweeting, 23, represented by Attorney Troy Kelman, faced Magistrate Shaka Serville on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and possession of ammunition.

On June 27 in New Providence, Sweeting was reportedly found with a black Hellcat 9mm pistol with seven live rounds of ammunition. He pleaded not guilty to both charges.

Bail was unopposed but the prosecution moved to have the accused fitted with an ankle monitor to which Attorney Kelman objected.

Sweeting’s counsel cited that an ankle monitor would be a serious disruption to his client’s life and that as a father of a three-year-old child it would make finding a job far more difficult.

In view of this, the magistrate granted the defendant bail at $7,000 with one or two sureties, with the only stipulation being that Sweeting sign in at Wulff Road Police Station every Monday by 7pm.

The defendant’s trial is set to begin on September 28.
