BAHAMIAN student athletes figured prominently in Howard University’s record-setting performances at the Northeast Conference Swimming and Diving Championships.
The men’s teams accumulated 638.50 points in the five-day span and finished as runner-up while the women finished in seventh place with 248 points at the meet last week in Geneva, Ohio.
Junior Luke-Kennedy Thompson was one of the Bison’s top performers and set several new Howard records. He set new Bison records in the 1,650 Free (15:50.28 seconds), the 500 Free (4:29.00) and the 400 Individual Medley (4:02.06).
In the 800 Free Relay, he teamed with Mark- Anthony Beckles, Reese Samuel and Miles Simon to set another record of 6:42.35 in the event.
Freshman Zaylie-Elizabeth Thompson set a new school record in the 200 Breast with a time of 2:22.52.
In the 100 Breast, she recorded the third fastest time in school history at 1:05.42 and was 10th in the 200 IM - 2:06.37 secs.
Her 800 Free Relay team of Madison Freeland, Courtney Connolly and Alana Josey reset the school record to 7:46.29.
Sophomore Mark- Anthony Thompson produced the 10th fastest 1,650 Free time in school history at 17:50.89.
In the 500 Free, he registered a time of 4:42.92, which ranks fourth all-time in school history.
In the 100 Breast he finished with the fifth (57.04) fastest mark in school history.
Freshman Erald Thompson III swam to a 1:55.19 mark in the 200 IM, placing him third all-time in school history.
In the 400 IM, he finished with the fifth-fastest time in school history - 4:17.03.
