A MAN was remanded to the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services yesterday after admitting to having an unlicenced shotgun and ammunition.
He is accused of threatening a father and son with this weapon.
Henry Rolle, 23, represented by attorney Lennox Coleby, faced Senior Magistrate Derence A Rolle Davis on four charges.
These include possession of an unlicenced shotgun, possession of ammunition, possession of a firearm with intent to put another in fear of life and attempted murder.
On August 31, Rolle was arrested after he was found with a black Mossberg Maverick 12-gauge model 88 shotgun with the serial number erased. Rolle was also found with four unfired rounds of 12-gauge ammunition.
Rolle is also accused of threatening George Beckford Sr with this shotgun and faced a charge of attempted murder against George Beckford, Jr.
In court, Rolle pleaded guilty to possessing the shotgun and ammunition, but was not required to enter a plea on the remaining charges.
When asked by the magistrate how he came into possession of the shotgun, Rolle said he was holding on to it for a friend who was facing separate court charges.
The prosecution also revealed to the court that the accused has other offences with previous possession of ammunition and drug charges.
During Mr Coleby’s mitigation plea, he said his young client is an aspiring entrepreneur who is capable of rehabilitation. After pointing out that Rolle had pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity and was remorseful for his actions, Mr Coleby asked that the court be lenient in its sentencing.
Magistrate Rolle Davis deferred sentencing in this matter to September 9, the same day to which the accused’s remaining charges were adjourned for continuation.
Rolle was remanded to the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services until his next court appearance.
