A MAN was sentenced to seven months in prison on Friday after he admitted to having 3oz of marijuana in his possession last Tuesday.

Magistrate Raquel Whyms charged Derek Stuart, 33, with two counts of possession of dangerous drugs with intent to supply.

Nexis Seymour, 28, was charged with a single count of possession of dangerous drugs with intent to supply with Stuart.

Stuart was reportedly found with a collective 3oz of marijuana in two separate packages on April 2 in New Providence.

Stuart was the sole defendant to plead guilty to both charges. This resulted in the charge against Ms Seymour being withdrawn.

Stuart will serve his sentence at the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services.

3oz? For possession of something that grows wild. Something that used to be farmed on 90% of New Providence. Something that has been consumed by people for ten of thousands of years or more. Something that has never caused harm to anyone, ever.

Someone really needs to fight in court, on the grounds of it not being dangerous.

Sentencing persons to jail for possession of small amounts of Marijuana for their personal use is foolish. That was the opinion of an English lecturer of one of my relatives. He said that they had decriminalize the possession of small amounts of marijuana in the United Kingdom.

You are simply giving a lot of mainly young men criminal records. This in turn is making it hard for them to obtain employment. This is creating an underclass of unemployable people in this country.

Listen up Florida has recreational marijuana ballot vote in November. Polls show it passing. Now if Florida legalizing pot what's gonna happen when they drag the tourists off the cruise ships and throws dem in Fox Hill Prison for "Dangerous Drugs"? You think you have bad publicity over crime and murder now? Get ahead of the curve and legalize marijuana now.
