Retired judge named to solar power firm Board

The renewable energy provider behind a $15m utility-scale solar project on Grand Bahama has named retired justice Rubie M. Nottage to its Board of Directors.

Lucayas Solar Power, which will supply Grand Bahama Power Company with energy from two separate solar sites, said in a statement that justice Nottage’s background in environmental and constitutional law will be invaluable to the development of its business.

“We are thrilled to welcome Justice Nottage to our Board. Her extensive expertise in law, particularly environmental law, is perfectly aligned with our goals of leading sustainable energy development,” said Jorge Marquez, president and chief executive of Lucayas Solar Power.

“Her academic and professional journey provides a solid foundation for her role on our Board. Most notably, her role as a lecturer at the University of The Bahamas not only enriches her experience but will also be critical in guiding our environmental and legal framework,”

Lucayas Solar Power said the appointment aligns with the United Nations (UN’s) Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEP), emphasising gender equality and women’s empowerment at all corporate levels. These principles have also been adopted by Inti Corporation, the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor overseeing the solar project. Inti will manage and operate the facility.

In addition to her legal and academic roles, justice Nottage has served on several national and international panels, including the World Bank’s ICSID Panel of Conciliators and Arbitrators. Her experience in arbitration and mediation enriches her contributions to the Board, especially in complex international legal environments.

Justice Nottage’s qualifications include a Master of Laws (LL.M.) with distinction in canon law from Cardiff University, and a postgraduate diploma in international and comparative commercial arbitration from Queen Mary College, University of London, which marked her with distinction. The Lucayas Solar Power Board also includes Rupert Roberts, Jorge Marquez and Paul Roker.
