Govt ‘pleased’ by early ambassador nomination

PRESS secretary Keishla Adderley said the Davis administration is pleased by US President-elect Donald Trump’s early announcement that he will appoint Herschel Walker as the US ambassador to The Bahamas.

“Of course, that is pending confirmation,” she noted, referring to the Senate process that confirms ambassador appointments.

“This is something that the administration has lobbied for and is happy to see the reinstatement of US representation in The Bahamas in its highest form for the first time since the Obama administration.”

The US has not had an ambassador to The Bahamas in 13 years. Nicole Avant served as the most recent United States ambassador to The Bahamas, holding the position from 2009 to 2011.

Mr Walker’s campaign for a Geroge Senate seat in 2022 was mired in controversy. He was accused of domestic abuse and faced reports that he paid for a girlfriend’s abortion despite his strong, public anti-abortion stance.

Asked about these, Ms Adderely said: “The appointee is at the prerogative of the United States of America. We are happy to work with whoever that appointee may be.”

She added: “We are, of course, looking to ensure that the mutual interests of both countries are observed and that we continue to deepen and strengthen the relationship that we’ve shared over the many decades.”

During President Obama’s administration, Cassandra Butts was nominated as ambassador in 2014, but she passed away before her confirmation could be completed.

President Donald Trump nominated Doug “Papa” Manchester in 2017, but Manchester withdrew his candidacy in 2019. Following this, Mr Trump put forward William Douglass as a nominee the next year.

After President Trump lost the 2020 election, Mr Douglass’ nomination was also withdrawn.

The early nomination of an ambassador by the government could signal the beginning of early-stage diplomatic negotiations like taking 50,000 immigrants. However, one might also interpret this as a potential prelude to harsh demands on government corruption and drug trafficking issues. A past example is President Donald Trump’s approach for instance, his infamous comment about 'shithole countries' illustrates how such diplomatic pressures were sometimes deployed in a manner that sparked global debate and raised concerns about international relations ...we all know Trump is a fool, birdbrain.

> So let us not celebrate so quickly

Just a general, unrelated comment, I recall when the allegations were made against Nygard. Just "*allegations*", no trial and men, all men, popped up to say what a good man he was and how much money he'd donated to sports.

I've been asking myself the question what are Bahamians especially men willing to ignore if they **think** they **might** get some money? It's a very sobering and disappointing reality. We will sell our first born girl (or boy) child for a dollar

The Bahamas can not decide who the USA ambassador will be, but many people will be disappointed when they find out that the man can not walk on water, when he speaks the winds and seas will not obey and when he goes the way of all flesh he will not rise on the third day , this goes for the rich and richer,

LMAO. Most Bahamians will not get the subtle message Trump is sending our corrupt PLP government with this appointment, i.e. a failed nation deserves a failed politician. Walker has no meaningful political connections in the U.S. in his own right that could be used to help work around or diffuse what Trump and DeSantis ultimately have in store for our small nation. We are going to be made to pay for Fwreddy Boy Mitchell's many transgressions against U.S. foreign policy and U.S. national security interests. As many of us know only too well, Fwreddy Boy has gone out of his way over many years to make The Bahamas an inflamed and most annoying pimple on the backside of the U.S.A.

You are correct.
Walker cannot think himself out of a wet paper bag.
The Davis administration and Walker should get along just fine.
Politics gets more disgusting each and every day.

**Let's sit back** -- considering a Trump nomination is not a sealed deal unless President-unelect Elon Musk gives a nod to HW as Ambassador. --- Yes?

With Tesla stock's post-election stellar price performance, Elon Musk's net worth is rapidly approaching $500 billion, i.e. $500,000,000,000. That's more than 40 times the entire national debt of the Bahamas inclusive of all unfunded entitlements.

At the post-election party Trump hosted at Mar a Lago, Trump with a crystal glass full of ginger ale, and Musk with a crystal glass full of a much more expensive bubbly, exchanged the following toasts to each other:

- Trump toasted: "To my adopted new son, Elon"
- Musk toasted: "To my adopted new dad, Donald"

Buckle up Bahamians! It's only a matter of time now before the Bahamas becomes a big red blinking blip on the radar screen of Trump, Musk and DeSantis.

As a people we should never have allowed our successive governments (especially PLP government leaders like Fwreddy Boy Mitchell) to have antagonized or taken advantage of successive U.S. administrations in so many ways for so many years. No doubt classified DEA and U.S. Coast Guard reports show that the governments we, the Bahamian people, so foolishly elected have done little if anything to prevent harmful drugs, humans, weapons, etc. from being trafficked into the U.S. through our country.

And while Canada, Mexico, and European nations are all scrambling like the dickens to show that they are willing to do their part (and pay their fair share) to stop nasty things from happening to their most important ally and trading partner, our stupid government simply persists in doing any and everything it can to threaten the national security interests of the U.S.A. This does not come without undesirable consequences for our small nation and our people. Just take a good look at Cuba today, or for that matter Haiti.

The Cubans looked to the Soviet Union to protect them and we all know how that ended. Therefore your suggestion that we, the Bahamian people, should look to the PRC (Communist China) to protect us from the many transgressions our political leaders have committed against the U.S.A. is really quite laughable. Forgive me ChiCom robo-troller, but you have yet again proven just how poorly programmed you are.
