BPL blames two generators failing for New Providence power outages

ABOUT five per cent of New Providence customers briefly lost power last night after two Bahamas Power and Light (BPL) units tripped offline.

The outage occurred shortly after 7pm, affecting areas such as Bernard Road, Village Road, Lyford Cay, parts of Coral Harbour, Carmichael Road, and Mackey Street.

Arnette Ingraham, a senior manager at BPL, said the company quickly added additional generation and restored power to most affected areas within an hour. Recovery efforts were ongoing at the time, with crews expecting full restoration soon after.

The outage comes as authorities warn of possible power disruptions with Hurricane Milton approaching.

Energy Minister JoBeth Coleby-Davis told reporters Tuesday night that the country’s infrastructure lacks the resilience to endure strong storm conditions, highlighting the need to build more robust systems as part of ongoing energy sector improvements.

She added that this effort is part of their ongoing work to transform the energy sector.

ThisIsOurs says...

"*the country’s infrastructure lacks the resilience to endure strong storm conditions,*"

BEC is a decades long victim of contract hoarding. And nothing has changed.

Contracts are hoarded by political interests in a grab for profit with no thought to whether or not value is given for service or performance improvement will result.

Brave Davis CLEARLY stated that the problems would be **in the past** as of **July 2024**. The entire country heard his declaration. This timeline coincided with the arrival of two new generators purchased by FOCOL and the launch of lkne work by Pike. As Brave Davis is not an energy expert, his statement could have only been the result of promises he was given and dreams he was sold by FOCOL and Pike. This means the plan was switch the lines bring in two generators and its smooth sailing.

It didnt work

Now they're trying to shift the narrative to, "*nothing has started yet*". That slight of hand wont work either. Not after the minister's big production over "*Pike trucks on the ground*"
