Against the stunning backdrop of sun-soaked pathways and endless blue skies at the Ocean Club Golf Course, the Flamingos Women’s Golf Club 242 launched its Fall 2024 season. Distinguished guests, including Ann Marie Davis — wife of Prime Minister Philip Davis — and several parliamentarians’ wives, came together for an afternoon filled with camaraderie, empowerment, and game-changing moments.
Michael Simms, director of instruction, was on hand to offer expert guidance, share tips and tricks, and help newcomers hone their skills in putting, driving, and mastering the etiquette of the sport.
The event was far more than just a lesson in chipping, putting, and driving. It was a celebration— a collective of powerful women shaping their presence in a traditionally male-dominated sport while championing community, sisterhood, and the transformative energy that golf brings to their lives.
Mrs Davis said: “Golf, like life, is about focus, resilience, and joy. Today was not just a day on the green; it was a statement. We, as women, can excel here and anywhere we choose. The Flamingos Women’s Golf Club 242 is opening doors, and I’m honoured to be a part of it.”
Torrianna Darville-Sands, executive team member for the Flamingos Women’s Golf Club 242, added: “The most compelling reason women are drawn to these events is the sense of community and belonging that the Flamingos Women’s Golf Club provides. We’ve created a relaxed, inclusive space where women can enjoy the sport without intimidation. It’s all about focusing on personal growth, enjoyment, and friendship rather than just competition.”
She emphasised the club’s future vision, saying: “Our club is breaking stereotypes and expanding access to the sport. We’re not only providing an avenue for women to grow in confidence and skill but also cultivating a new generation of female golfers who blend tradition with modern ambition, reshaping the landscape of sports for women in The Bahamas.”
This kickoff event is the beginning of what promises to be a busy season. With a robust 2025 calendar featuring tournaments, community workshops, and social gatherings, the club is positioning itself not just as a sporting group but as a movement, encouraging women across the islands to pick up their clubs, find their swing, and claim their rightful place on the course.
