THIRD baseman Jasrado “Jazz” Chisholm, with his Major League Baseball’s historic 400th career hit, continued to make his presence felt for the New York Yankees.

Chisholm, coming off a big game ending performance in the opener of the series on Wednesday, produced a one-for-three performance at the plate on Thursday night in game two of their three-game series against the Boston Red Rox.

Similar to game one on Wednesday at the Yankee Stadium when Chisholm came through with the walk-off single in the bottom of the 11th inning in a 4-3 win, last night’s game went extra innings.

This time, New York pulled off a 2-1 walkout victory as Juan Soto doubled on a ground ball to left fielder Darren Duran to plate Jon Berti with the winning run.

With the win, New York pushed their front running record in the American League East division to 85-62, while Boston dropped to third in the standings at 74-73.

The two teams will play the final game of the series today at 7.05pm.

Chisholm Jr’s career hit

With Giancarlo Stanton walking to reach first base to lead off the second, Chisholm Jr hit a line drive to Ceddanne Rafaela for the first out.

It turned out to be Chisholm’s historic his career 400th hit since making his debut with the Miami Marlins’ organisation in 2020, only to be traded to New York in July.

The Yankees ended up scoring the first run in the game in the inning.

Chisholm Jr, batting seventh in the line-up last night, grounded out in his final at-bat for the second out as New York failed to break the 1-1 tie in the eighth inning.

After Boston tied the score at 1-1, thanks to a solo home run from Boston’s Danny Jensen to start the fifth, New York came back in the sixth with Austin Wells got a single.

Up next, with one-out, Chisholm Jr singled to right field  before he got picked off trying to steal second.

Despite loading the bases, New York failed to score in the inning.

In the fourth, after Stanton singled with one out, Chisholm Jr walked.

With two out, the pair moved into scoring position after Anthony Rizzo got hit by a pitch. But Anthony Volpe flied out to kill the rally.

Walk off performance

In game one of their series against the Red Sox on Wednesday night, Chisholm Jr, batting in the fourth or clean up spot, went one-for-four with his only hit going through in the bottom of the 11th with a walk-off RBI single in the Yankees’ 4-3 win.

Facing left-hander Kris Butler, Chisholm Jr  ripped qa harder grounder to shortstop Bobby Witt Jr, who made a terrific diving play to stop the bll, only to relay it home a bit wide off the plate as pinch runner Jon Berti dived home to end the game.

Chisholm Jr, who also made an impact on the defensive end as he caught a shot from Freddy Fermin to prevent an extra-base hit in the sixth, said he was glad to be in the position to help the Yankees as they prepare for the postseason.

“I think it was the eighth inning, we got a strikeout to end the inning and the whole crowd erupted,” Chisholm Jr said. “I was wide-eyed, like, ‘Oh, this is sick.’ Like, it ain’t even October yet. I can’t wait.”

October is the time for MLB’s playoffs and Chisholm Jr is excited because this will be his first trip to the postseason.
