A MAN was bound to keep the peace for one year yesterday after admitting to breaking into a residence in James Cistern last week.
Assistant Chief Magistrate Carolyn Vogt-Evans arraigned Kenston Pinder, 44, on housebreaking.
The defendant reportedly broke into the residence of Brenda Demeritte on January 25.
The complainant reportedly knew the defendant.
Pinder pleaded guilty to the charge. He explained that he broke the window to get into the house because he needed somewhere to stay that night.
He claimed it was too late to get a room at a hotel that night. He offered to pay the complainant for the damages.
Magistrate Evans ordered the defendant to keep the peace for one year. Defaulting on this would carry a $1,000 fine or a six-month prison term.
Pinder was also ordered to compensate the complainant with $500 or risk a similar six-month prison sentence.
Pinder must appear in court in Governor’s Harbour for proof of payment on March 24.
