Two charged with assault of man in eleuthera

TWO men were granted bail yesterday after they allegedly severely beat a man to the head with a brick in Harbour Island last weekend.

Assistant Chief Magistrate Carolyn Vogt-Evans arraigned Mauris Jonassaint, 35, and Kerven Jonassaint, 36, on grievous harm.

Mauris faced an additional charge of assault.

Mauris allegedly assaulted Luc Joseph in Eleuthera on January 26.

Both defendants allegedly beat Joseph to the head with a brick and seriously injured him.

Mr Joseph was successfully treated for his injuries in the hospital.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to both charges.

Mauris’ bail was $6,000, while Kerven’s was $5,000 with one or two sureties each.

Under the terms of their bail, the accused must sign in at the Harbour Island Police Station every Monday by 4pm.

The trial will begin on March 19.

Quintin Percentie represented the accused.

Assistant Superintendent of Police S Coakley served as the prosecutor.
