A MAN was remanded to prison yesterday after he was accused of having sex with his eight year old step-granddaughter three times this year.
The 58-year-old male, whose name is being withheld to protect the identity of the minor, was charged with three counts of unlawful sexual intercourse with a dependent child before Assistant Chief Magistrate Carolyn Vogt-Evans.
The male allegedly had sexual intercourse with the underaged girl three times between January 1 and June 31 in New Providence.
The accused was not required to enter a plea at that time. He was informed his matter will proceed to the Supreme Court via a voluntary bill of indictment (VBI).
He was told of his right to apply for bail through the higher court.
The defendant will be remanded to the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services until his VBI is potentially served on November 27.
