Maximilian Landry knocked in a hole-in-one and Madison Carroll, Haley Hall and Chemari Pratt all earned top three individual performances to highlight Team Bahamas’ day one competition at the 37th Caribbean Amateur Junior Golf Championships.
Those performances helped Team Bahamas move into a tie for first place in the girls’ 15-and-under division, second in the girls’ 18-and-under and third in the boys’ 11-13 after yesterday’s opening round at the Grand Reserve Golf Club in Puerto Rico.
The Bahamas is currently sitting in third place for the Hank James team trophy with 42 points, just behind the Dominican Republic with 44 points. Puerto Rico is out front with 55 points.
Bahamas coach Richard Gibson Sr said the way Team Bahamas performs, he anticipates that they will only play better as the tournament progresses.
“Tomorrow (today), we will put our best foot forward and try to move up into second place or even challenge for first place,” Gibson said. “I think the team will shoot much better than they did today (yesterday).” The Bahamas 18-and-under girls team was second with +10. They trailed Puerto Rico, who had +3. The Dominican Republic was third with +11.
Chemari Pratt paced Team Bahamas wirth 82 (42-40) for third and Anissa Robinson was eighth with 88 (43-45). Ava Saavedra of Puerto Rico posted a 75 (39-36).
In the girls 15-and-under division, Team Bahamas was tied with Puerto Rico with +1. The Dominican Republic was third with +5.
Madison Carroll sat in second for the Bahamas with 73 (35-38), the same score of 73 (39-34) that Puerto Rico’s Amelia Santiago did for the lead. Fellow Bahamian Haley Hall was third with 78 (43-35).
The 11-13 girls were fourth with +13. Trinidad & Tobago was out front with +2, followed by Puerto Rico with +9 and Jamaica with +13.
Kayleigh Rolle shot 90 (45-45) for sixth and Re’Annah Hanna was 10rth with 109 (56-53).Darina Betwchart of Bermuda posted a three-under-par 69 (34-35) for the lead.
On the boys side, Team Bahamas was third with +7. Puerto Rico took the early lead with +1 and the Dominican Republic was second with +3.
William West shot 79 (39-40) for fifth and Nai Kai Wilson was 89 (44-45) for The Bahamas. The top performer was Trebor Melendez of Puerto Rico with 73 (36-37).
The 15-and-under division saw Team Bahamas with a fifth place finish with +28. Puerto Rico led with +2, followed by Trinidad & Tobago wirth +10, the Dominican Republic with +13 and Jamaica with +20.
Maximilian Landry shot 81 (40-41) for ninth and Rashawn Hanna was 91 (48-49) for 15th for The Bahamas. Fernando Leduc had the highest score of two-under-par 70 (37-33).
And in the boys 18-and-under division, Team Bahamas was tied for fourth with the Cayman Islands with +12. The Dominican Republic took the lead with +1. Puerto Rico is in second with +3 and Trinidad & Tobago is third with +11.
Aiden Gorospe was 10th with his score of 76 (38-38) and Kerrington Rolle was 15th with 80 (41-39) for The Bahamas. Javier Vazquez was the high scorer with a one-under-par 71 (36-35).
