A 16-year-old boy admitted to having a loaded gun and running away from police on Kemp Road earlier this month.

Senior Magistrate Algernon Allen Jr arraigned the teenage defendant, whose name is being withheld due to him being a minor, with possession of an unlicensed firearm and possession of ammunition.

The defendant’s guardian was present for his arraignment.

The defendant reportedly fled on foot after he spotted police on March 13. While the teen tried to discard a black Taurus PT111 G2 9mm pistol with 24 rounds of ammunition during the chase, both he and the weapon were found by authorities.

The defendant admitted to the offense before the magistrate.

The juvenile was granted $9,000 bail and is to be placed on a 24-hour residential curfew.

He will return to court for service of his probation report on May 22.

Sergeant 3004 Forbes served as the prosecutor.
