Rodney Moncur dies, aged 68

RODNEY Moncur, a former senator, social activist, and well-known radio personality, has died at the age of 68.

Born on November 30, 1956, Moncur was raised in Black Village and educated at Oakes Field Primary and C.C. Sweeting High School. His public life began in the 1970s and spanned decades, marked by advocacy on a range of social and political issues, including education, judicial reform, and local governance.

Moncur held several leadership roles, including President of the Bahamas Construction Union and Public Relations Officer for the Bahamas Taxi-Cab Union. In 2010, he was appointed a Justice of the Peace, and in 2016, he was sworn in as a senator. He also served as a crime consultant to the Ministry of National Security.

He gained national prominence as the host of the radio programme Freedom March, where he was known for his outspoken views, distinctive style, and controversial commentary. He was popularly referred to as the “Leader of the Women Dem.”

Following news of his passing, hundreds took to social media to express condolences, share memories, and reflect on his impact in public life.

An official cause of death has not been released. However, Moncur had reportedly battled a short illness and was recently seen receiving care at Princess Margaret Hospital.

Sorry to hear he has died. He often spoke of dying As a fellow Roman catholic. We pray a hail mary on his behalf he will be missed
