DAY two of the John Brown University men’s basketball team turned out to be a lot more than expected, despite the inclement weather.

A number of high school players, including CI Gibson, Anatol Rodgers and DW Davis, showed up at the Kendal Isaacs Gymnasium yesterday although the session was switched from the CI Gibson Gymnasium.

Bahamian Dr Simeon Hinsey, who now resides in Arkansas, said his whole idea of bringing John Brown to The Bahamas is to give the local players a glimmer of hope for the future.

“The rain slowed things down, but it didn’t stop it,” he said. “We are just glad to be back here serving the kids. We’ve seen a lot of athleticism, a lot of talent. Our country is full of talent.

“But I just want to give them some hope and let them know that people care about them and they never know when that door will open. They just have to be ready.”

CI Gibson’s coach Kevin ‘KJ’ Johnson said he brought his out because he wanted his Rattlers’ players to see and understand what it takes to play at the next level at college.

“You have to see what you need to do to prepare for this,” Johnson said. “Listening to the coaches and the players will help to prepare our young men for this opportunity.

“It’s a huge opportunity for them to understand what they have to do if they want to play at the next level, what to do and what not to do and it’s very important for them to understand this.”

ASP Jermaine Adderley said they were really pleased with the support from the government schools who showed up to participate on day two.

“They are very disciplined. The coaches and the players from the United States are so pleased to see how the players are listening and following their instructions,” he said.

He said Commissioner of Police Shanta Knowles and assistant commissioner Anthony ‘Cops’ Rolle have been impressed with what they’ve seen.

But all attention will be focused on tonight’s finale when John Brown University will take on the Police Crimestoppers in the feature game at the AF Adderley Gymnasium at 8 pm.

“We will have a series of games, starting at 5 pm and it will run into the big game against John Brown and the Police,” Adderley said “The Police band will be on hand to put on a halftime show. It’s going to be very exciting.”

Hinsey assured the public that they will get their money’s worth when they show up to watch the games tonight. He encouraged the public to come out and support the games.

Adderley also took the time out to  express his gratitude to the sponsors, including JD Johnson, Member of Parliament for Fox Hill Fred Mitchell, Coca-Cola and the Fox Hill Urban Renewal, for their support of the event.
