FORMER basketball star Rick Fox has taken aim at Bahamian politicians in a social media post that lampoons them for showing up “as Action Heroes” only when elections are near, remarks likely to raise eyebrows as speculation continues about his political ambitions.
In a commentary titled “Trick or Treat: A Halloween Political Party in Golden Isles” posted on X, the former NBA star mocked what he called election-season theatrics, accusing politicians of fixing potholes only when “the polls roll around.”
Mr Fox wrote that it was a “real scare” that “someone had to die and a by-election had to be called before a single pothole got filled and a single road got paved.”
He questioned why tragedy so often precedes action, asking: “Why does it take tragedy to spark progress in our country?”
His post, referencing the Golden Isles by-election, offered a biting take on the state of representation in The Bahamas, criticising the lack of visibility and accountability among sitting MPs.
He said “I never see my MP” was the most common complaint he hears from Bahamians, adding: “If seeing your MP is the most important thing to a voter, maybe it’s time for Oprah-style governance: ‘You get an MP! You get an MP! Everybody gets their own MP!’”
Mr Fox also urged voters to think critically before casting their ballots, warning against repeatedly rewarding the same political patterns. “Snake bite you once, it’s the snake’s fault. Snake bite you twice, it’s yours. Snake bite you a third time? You probably voted for it,” he said.
The former Los Angeles Lakers forward, who last month hinted he was considering entering frontline politics, said: “Until we change the system, no amount of smooth roads on Election Day will matter,” he wrote.

Well, yes --- The impression I'm getting is one of an outlook of hope with comrade newcomers Robert Dupuch-Carron, Sebastian Bastian and possibly Rick Fox entering political arenas. ---Still a wait-see if their business successes can be flipped to Vote Getting?" --- Voters' become stakeholders'.
