THE Ministry of Youth Sports and Culture held a ceremony at the Walk of Fame on Mychal Thompson Boulevard this past weekend to unveil six new portraits of Bahamian athletes - Romell Knowles, Nikia Deveaux-Christie, Devynne Charlton, Jasrado “Jazz” Chisholm Jr, Anita “Lynx” Moncur and Timothy Munnings.
• Romell Knowles, a former baseball player who represented The Bahamas in four World Championships and two World Games, is now a longtime sports administrator who serves as president for the Bahamas Olympic Committee and has held roles such as Chef de Mission and many baseball national team coach positions.
• Nikia Deveaux-Christie, a former swimmer who represented The Bahamas at the 2004 Athens Olympics and won a bronze medal as part of The Bahamas’ freestyle relay team at the 2007 Pan American Games.
• Devynne Charlton, a world-class sprint hurdler who was the 2022 World Indoor 60m hurdles silver medallist turned 2024 World Indoor 60m hurdles record holder with a time of 7.65 seconds after the month prior set a Milrose Games world record of 7.67 seconds along with multiple global finals appearances.
• Jasrado “Jazz” Chisholm Jr, Major League Baseball infielder/outfielder currently playing for the New York Yankees, just recently achieved an historic 30-30 season with 31 home runs and 31 stolen bases this past season. He made his MLB debut in 2020 for the Miami Marlins.
• Anita “Lynx” Moncur, a long-standing Special Olympics athlete and leader with more than four decades of participation, has multiple World Games Appearances and several World Games medals across five sports.
• Timothy Munnings, a former 400-metre sprint specialist who ran for The Bahamas in multiple global championships, was part of the relay team that won a World Championships gold medal and an Olympic bronze medal.
