THE Bahamas Lawn Tennis Association has issued notifications allowing for the regularisation of its members in order to become current.
“We are pleased that members took advantage to regularise their accounts, including persons under the recent legal rulings. The BLTA has also disseminated on August 21st 2025, the financial statements for the years 2020-2024, a list of its retiring officers, an agenda and nomination forms for the upcoming Annual General Meeting (AGM) to be held on 13th September 2025,” president Perry Newton said.
“Additional AGM notifications were also printed in the local newspaper for wider dissemination on Aug 21st and 28th, 2025.”
Newton said that while some may not be pleased with the upward trajectory of Bahamas tennis, we know that it has been very positive over the recent years, with excellent achievements and stellar performances.
“The BLTA recently fielded two premier teams for international competition, and the results achieved were undefeated performances and promotions to the next level, which made the efforts all worthwhile,” Newton said.
“We also have experienced growth in junior tennis programs over the years, not just in New Providence but in Abaco, Inagua, Andros, Grand Bahama and Eleuthera.”
Newton also noted that the BLTA continues to be in good standing locally and with its governing body, the International Tennis Federation.
“This administration continues to operate at the highest standards and under its watch has recorded numerous successes at competitions, community programs and administrative advancements,” he said.
The BLTA remains committed to a transparent and inclusive membership process and according to Newton, all applications are received and considered in strict accordance with the Association’s Constitution, which requires a ratification process at a duly convened board meeting.
“The process will continue to be administered with fairness, clarity, and adherence to constitutional requirements. It is unfortunate that inaccuracies and unfounded claims can easily be printed or aired without the proper due diligence,” he said.
“At this time, the BLTA is focused and preparing for its upcoming elections, and it is our hope that any red herrings and untruths are seen as distractions.”
Newton said the BLTA remains focused on its mission: to grow tennis, support our athletes, and uphold the proud sporting tradition of The Bahamas.
“We will continue working in partnership with our athletes, members, stakeholders, and international bodies to advance the sport for the benefit of current and future generations,” he stated.
