A MAN was sentenced to two years in prison yesterday after admitting he broke into a woman’s home and stole $2,200 in cash last month.

Prosecutors said Richardson Calixte, also known as Mark Johnson, 34, broke into the Sea Beach Estates home of Prisca Rolle between 9am and 4.15pm on August 12. He stole $2,200 and damaged her front door.

On August 29, Calixte gave a false statement to Inspector C Robinson in George Town, Exuma, in an attempt to evade the law.

He was charged with housebreaking, stealing, damage, and deceit of a public officer before Senior Magistrate Shaka Serville.

Calixte had faced a previous housebreaking charge in November.

He pleaded guilty to the latest offences and was sentenced to two years at the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services for housebreaking. He was also sentenced to one year for deceit, to run concurrently.

Inspector Cordero Farrington prosecuted the case.
