KPMG (Bahamas) has hired a former senior Department of Inland Revenue executive as its director of tax.
The accounting firm, in a statement, said Patricia Jackson brings experience across tax administration, policy development, litigation and private practice at a time when the Bahamian tax system and related regulation is becoming increasingly complex.
It said Ms Jackson’s career covers both the public and private sectors. She began her legal career as a prosecutor before moving into tax enforcement, where she prosecuted tax fraud and other tax-related offences.
Following VAT’s introduction in The Bahamas, she played a key role in establishing the Department of Inland Revenue’s enforcement and compliance function, with her responsibilities later expanding to include tax policy, legislative development and tax litigation.
Ms Jackson most recently served as chair of Higgs & Johnson’s tax practice, advising domestic and international clients on a broad range of issues. KPMG said she will now work closely with its clients to help them navigate an increasingly complex tax environment, while contributing to the continued development of the firm's tax capabilities and supporting the growth of its people.
"I am excited to join KPMG at a time when tax is becoming an increasingly important business and policy issue,” Ms Jackson said. “I was particularly attracted by the opportunity to work alongside talented professionals, contribute to the growth of the firm's tax capabilities and help develop the next generation of tax advisors.
“I look forward to supporting clients through a rapidly-evolving tax environment and helping them achieve their business objectives with practical and commercially focused advice."
Tomás Machado, a KPMG partner in The Bahamas, said: "We are pleased to welcome Patricia to KPMG. She brings a wealth of experience across tax administration, policy, legislation, dispute resolution and advisory services, as well as a deep understanding of the evolving tax landscape in The Bahamas.
“Patricia is also passionate about developing people and mentoring the next generation of professionals, which aligns strongly with our commitment to building talent and supporting our clients with practical, high-quality advice. We look forward to the contributions she will make to our firm, our clients and our people."
