A Cabinet minister has held a second meeting within a week with stakeholders who will form a newly-appointed Bahamas Aviation Safety Committee and ‘think thank’ in the wake of the fatal Andros air crash.

JoBeth-Coleby Davis, minister of energy, utilities and aviation, had initially met with the new Civil Aviation Authority Bahamas (CAAB) Board and senior leadership on July 8, 2026 - just two days before a Flamingo Air plane crashed killing all ten persons on board.

The minister then held the follow-up meeting over the Bahamas Aviation Safety Committee one week later on July 15, 2026, following the crash.

“My Ministry takes seriously its responsibility for safety, security and economic oversight of the aviation sector throughout the Bahamian archipelago to ensure that domestic and international aviation operations strictly adhere to standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO)”, said Mrs Coleby-Davis.

Attendees included Dr Kenneth Romer, director of aviation; Chequita Johnson, director-general of Civil Aviation Authority Bahamas (CAAB) and senior leaders; Captain Mornell Brown, president of the Bahamas Airline Owners and Pilots Association (BAOPA) and officers; Captain Mark Johnson, president of the Bahamas Airline Pilots Union (BALPA) and officers; Dr. Anthony Hamilton, president of the Bahamas Association of Air Transport Operators (BAATO); and officials of the Bahamas Air Navigation Services Authority (BANSA).

“The meeting environment and atmosphere was an excellent stakeholders and gatekeepers strategic experience for the Bahamian aviation sector. This is an exceptional start, and we look forward to collaborating on the way forward,” said Dr Hamilton.
