THREE champions emerged after more than 20 matches in the Bahamas Amateur Wrestling Federation’s Beach Wrestling Bash. The modified round robin event was held at Junkanoo Beach on July 25 with competitors possessing various levels of experience.
Taro Sears held on to a perfect record of 4-0 to capture the Adult Division. His fourth-round victory over Thorn Demeritte sealed his victory in a close match that ended 5-3 in his favour.
Meanwhile, Arnold Ageeb topped Youth Division 1, and Luka Giallombardo survived two tie breakers to earn his spot as the winner of Youth Division 2.
“Beach wrestling is fast and fun,” said Clarence Rolle, president of the Bahamas Amateur Wrestling Federation. “This was a first for many of today’s competitors, but I believe the taste of this type of competition will be able to fuel many more events. So, we plan to have more opportunities for others to join them.”
Kenny Johnson, the founder of Bolt Wrestling in the United States, served as the day’s referee.
