YOUNG Bahamian basketball player Keitho Johnson Jr, also known as “KJay 2 Smooth,” is giving back to the next generation through his first local basketball giveback initiative.

Johnson, the son of Charlis Robins, partnered with local skills trainer Darshtyn Baker, founder of Island Dreams Basketball Organisation, to provide young campers with basketball instruction and guidance on what it takes to become a successful student-athlete.

The young players also received basketball travel essential kits containing hygiene products, ice packs, soothing cream, cooling towels and water bottles.

Campers were recognised for their performance, with awards presented to the best defensive player and best offensive player, while the camp most valuable player received a special MVP ring.

Johnson’s initiative was also supported by the mentorship of Rev Father DeAngelo Bowe, rector of the Parish Church of the Most Holy Trinity, and inspired by the example of his grandfather, Charlie “Softly” Robins.

The initiative went beyond developing basketball skills, placing emphasis on mentorship, discipline, hard work and faith.

In additon to the latter, the initiative also encouraged young Bahamians to use their talents to positively impact others.
