Human Rights in the Bahamas is taboo andI've been told by some, 'unchristian like'. Because beating suspects, bashing in and raping illegal immigrants, incest, political victimization, rape culture, anti-intellectualism and marital rape are all Bahamian values. They are condoned...

these things don't become issues for us until it knocks at the doors of us or those we love and care about. We are brought up in a prejudiced and sick society, but to stand up and show other Bahamians what's wrong in our society makes you the bad guy, hated and an un-patriotic Bahamian or as some call it 'a traitor'.

I applaud Adrian for writing about it.

based on your logic if they are accustomed to war, why would they leave a war torn country and seek asylum to have a better life? and you also say "These people" as if to blanket them with the stereotype of being terrorists. That is a rather ignorant stance to take. Many of these people protested for a proper democracy during the Arab spring and was executed in the streets by the Assad regime. So they started shooting back at a government that refused to relinquish power like a proper democracy. Your point comes from ignorance. There are terrorists and jihadists in the mix that is true. But to paint all of them under that brush is asinine. and to suggest bahamian don't attack police is hilarious. Have you been watching the news? do you consider persons that shoot at police officers non-bahamian?

This was probably a giant waste of my time writing this as either you won't read it or you'll go straight to personal attacks on my character. meaning you know your position is unfavorable.
either way hasty generalizations and demonizing a group of people does not solve problems. It creates fear which then creates xenophobia, hatred and perpetuates the same cycle of nonsense you purport to be against.

so two wars started by Pres. Bush jr. is Obama's fault?
Hr ended a war that was bleeding the US economy and caused gas prices to hike. This isn't one Presidents fault, this is the collective responsibility of decades of American Foreign policy that time and time again blows up in their face.

The Bahamas stands at 23 for homicides per capita in 2014
The Bahamas for corruption ranges anywhere from 24-58 depending on your source of information. the Global CPI lumps us with the United States which isn't near the top 10 for corruption either
the Bahamas stands at 23 for rape per capita
Multitude of sources including the world bank does not have the Bahamas' unemployment rate in the top 10. We are also a ways from it.
Our ease of doing business also not as bad as more than 10 countries... although it is kinda bad. We are ranked at 97 out of 189 countries and sovereign states between 2011-2015 according to the world bank. This may change.
The Bahamas' unemployment rate ranks at 56 according to the international labour organization, which is apart of the UN. kinda far from the top 10

On The Bahamas ranks sixth on obesity list

I'm not surprised at all at the amount of ignorance in this forum. COB has accreditation to the point where other institutions, even European and American ones, are trying to become associated with the college to gain accreditation as well .Too even insinuate that the College is not a reputable institution of learning is beyond asinine.
We have scholars at the College who produce the bulk of ALL private research conducted in the country. If you didn't know it's because you didn't bother to go looking or even read.
The problem with COB is it's very foundation in the COB act. which allows the government to politically appoint whichever crony they so desire. What do you think is the end result?
The processes at the college are also archaic, the current president is a dream seller, the financial situation has always been questionable, and politics should never have a place their and the institution needs to be autonomous.
I am not speaking as an outsider looking into the institution I speak as a student trying to make something of myself. But halfway through writing this I realize how pointless this is. Those words fall on blind eyes and deaf ears. Instead of fixing something good that we have and make it better we rather tear down and discredit without all the facts, that's not ignorance. That's the Bahamas...
