According to the PLP - the economy, education, health are at the top of the agenda. The government will be supplied information by the civil servants- the opposition will not be privy to this information. (Unless the leaking of confidential information continues) Mr. Laing's appointment is about knowledge -- 5 years of experience. As the former Minister of State for Finance he knows more about the state of the Bahamian economy than the new finance team. He can clarify the misinformation, half truths and lies. Likewise, Mr. Bannister serves the same purpose.
The Progressive Liberal Party is no longer campaigning. What may have 'sounded good' during the campaign may be a very bitter pill for the economic stability of the country. The PLP must tell the Bahamian people the possisble reprecussions (based of expert unbiased opinion). Real experts! Not politicall pundits and wan-ta-be economists.
Bahamians do not rate the Bahamian economy for FDI. Financial analysts do --Moody's, Standard and Poors etc. Of course, the analysis is based of the information that the Government releases. In our case the FNM government was pretty open. The Greek government falsified its information and caused the fall of their economy and threatened the stability of the Euro and the European Union. Money in the Pocket: The money in the pocket is not the foreign analyst but the monies (not salaries) 'greedy' or 'unscrupulous' citizens are willing to accept to pave the way for foreign investors to plunder (invest) in their country -- under the table, grafts, greasing the palms, etc. Some FDI are attracted to countries where the environmental laws are weak; where public servants' allegiance are to themselves, and where cronyism etc. rules the day, and the population is 'ignorant' not illiterate but lacking the skills to critically analyze the propaganda.
The role of politicians must be clear. Politicians do not run ministeries. Running/managing ministeries are the responsibilities of civil servants. So, what is the monthly cost of for these ministers, ministers of states, and parlimentary secretaries whose sole purpose is to convey the PLP government's Charter to the civil servants? Unfortunately, effectiveness cannot be measured until these ministers, ministers of state, and parlimentary secretaries have had an opportunity to begin their political tasks.
The results of the May 7 election is not a shock. Any poliitcal analyst would have seen the writing on the wall. Recent elections around the globe (Ireland, Greece etc. and even US primaries and elections), the governing parties/incumbent(s) were all replaced. This reaction to the financial crises is a basic human response for survival -- hope that there is "something" better.
Shares value up! Good for shareholders. What about us, the Bahamians. Don't we deserve to know how far the BPC web have infiltrated our policy makers. Looking forward to the new Prime Minister's libel suit against the FNM concerning the new PM and the Deputy PM's "past" employment with BPC. Closure is needed.
You are correct Mr. Christie, you are not a consultant today, you have completed your consultancy. The issues is that you were a consultant during a very crucial time in the genesis of BPC--this is the issue.
Ahah! But, we are discussing Bahamians; specifically, we are discussing political candidates who hope to become the next government--the government that will have to spend monies to improve the image of The Bahamas as a safe tourist destination. How far are they willing to go, to win? Good marketing is based on word-of-mouth. I hope that the passengers in tour bus No. 611 travelling West on Tonique Darling Hwy yesterday, agree with you. They were very busy taking pictures of the billboards. Human beings commit murder. Perhaps, you can share how a government can instill the the value of human life into its citizens.
