When I visit my sister who lives in the US,I don't see stray animals on their streets. The city and county has a larger population than the entire Bahamas. The local government officials there have a better handle on their problems.
The person serving as speaker is not suited for that position. The lady does not have the experience, knowledge or temperament for that position.
That is one of the reasons, this country needs a real system of local government. It will allow people to learn and practice governance and management. How we operate here, is one day you are joe blow and the nest day, you are a government minister.
An idiotic idea. The uniform branches are agents of the state. A s a result, the state should be held liable for their actions. They are not independent contractors.
This is simply the wrong method to deal with this problem. Better recruitment, training and management of officers is needed. They are not dealing with the root cause of the problem. This is simply wrong. This reasoning is symptomatic of the governing of this country.
I am not a fan or supporter of Phillip Davis. But what he said is very true. There are a number of contracts executed by the Ministry of Works at the end of the last financial year ,which were not included in the reports.
The FNM under Dr.Minnis is simply the nest side of a tarnish coin like the PLP. The same budgetary tricks under the PLP happened under the FNM. Smoke and Mirrors. Like some body said to me, SSDD.
The yin and yang of Bahamian politics. The FNM zero-rated bread basket items. To make up for the lost of income, they increase vat from 7.5% to 12%. The PLP now will remove the zero-rates on bread basket items. this is done to compensate for the reduction of the vat rate from 12% to 10%. They will attempt to soften the blow of the removal of the zero-rates on the bread basket items.
What is needed for in this country is a serious discussion on tax reform. The Bahamas can not continue to kick that can down the road. However Bahamians are not ready for that. So let the band play on and rearrange the deck chairs on the Titanic.
Both major political parties do this in the Bahamas Oppose an idea in opposition and then turn around and support it once you are in government. The FNM under Dr.Minnis did it with the spy bill and also the vat tax.
Opposing sensible progressive ideas is deeply engrained in the Bahamian mentality. That is one of the things causing the undercurrent of disaffection in this country.
The pie is not big enough for every body. There is not enough seats around the table. So you have a lot of hungry party supporters. Quite a number of persons campaign and support a political party for their share of the spoils. The Americans use to call this the spoilsman system.
The late legendary Jamaican prime minister Michael Manley said this about politics in his country. Politics there has evolved to getting access to the scare benefits of the state. It is the same in the Bahamas.
@sheeprunner12.Both major political parties do it. Let Dr. Minnis tell you how much Marlon Johnson was being paid? Or better yet ,let him talk you about the wife of an FNM party official who is employed at NIB. She has no real experience in the area she is employed.
The Punch served a niche in this country. It filled Bahamians' appetites for gossip and sip sip about people's business. It had a good run for long time in this country.
The Punch never modernized or updated it's business operations. It never developed an on-line presence. So the paper was in decline for some time.
