This columnist like so many bahamians don't understand governance, political systems and management. A relative of mine was also told that by an african american in the United States.
The PLP used the giving of jobs in the civil service and public corporations for two reasons. 1. It was an inducement or reward for voting and supporting them. 2. It was used as form of social welfare . Give a person a job to support them and their family.
This economy has for years not produce the jobs or the income to support a large amount of persons. Bahamians will do what they laugh and throw jeers at other caribbean people do, migrate. Already a lot of persons who go off to school don't return home when they graduate. An academic has stated that the Bahamas has moved from a country of immigration to a country of migration.
The acting financial secretary is simply out of his depth. You can't take nothing he says ,at face value. Kwasi is simply incompetent. This is one of Dr.Minnis's bad decisions coming to light.
The project being done by Tyler Technologies was started under Simon Wilson. When the FNM came into power, all these projects were terminated. They claimed these projects were not needed.
After their poorly thought vat tax increase, they realized these projects make sense. That is why they were restarted. The Revenue Enhancement Unit, Click to Clear Project and the Tyler Technologies project were cancelled and now restarted.. Mr.Johnson will now attempt to take credit with these projects. Mr.Hartnell will continue to write whatever lies Mr.Johnson feeds him. Like someone said to me who is in the know, I lay the blame for a lot of mess squarely on Dr .Minnis shoulders. He does not listen to sound advice.
The Bahamas had to apply for this waiver. The Bahamas due to its's high GDP was ineligible for World Bank 's loans from the 1980's. This should have been known by the media.
The media houses in the Bahamas by in large do an extremely poor job in informing the bahamian people of the circumstances of life in this country. In fact, a late politician said that. Compared to the media in Jamaica, Bardados and Trinidad, the media here is way behind.
My sincere condolences to the family. A very sad situaton.
Over the years, there have been several murders on or near school campuses on New Providence. A young man was murdered on the grounds of C.I. Gibson. A young man was murdered near A..F Adderley at the Hugh Campbell tournament when he attempted to stop some men from stealing his shades. A young man from C.V.Bethel was stabbed to death at the shopping center East Street South. A young man was stabbed on Horse Shoe Drive walking home from T.A Thompson school .He died in the hospital. I personally knew two young men who were stabbed to death in the Coconut Grove area.
There is a lot deeply rooted social problems on the island of New Providence. These problems manifest themselves in the crime, anger and frustration. Everybody needs to come together and put their heads together to come up solutions to these problems.
It was recommended from 1963, 58 years ago that a proper land registry be set up. This was done from the seventies in St.Kitts and the Cayman Islands.
There was a attempt a few years ago to computerize the land records. There is strong resistance to change in this country. There are quite a number of persons who benefit from the Bahamas not having a proper land registry. The Bahamas is a country held back by various persons who benefit from maintaining the status quo.
The purchase of HMBS Lawrence Major was one of the best decisions of the Christie government. That vessel was built in lieu of a next patrol craft. A retired defence officer told me that.
He said that in the event of a natural disaster, you need to transfer supplies ,machinery and men around this country He said some islands don't have proper docking facilities or the channels is shallow. Defence officers explain that to Christie and his cabinet. But Bahamians don't really understand or travel in the Bahamas. Like some one said to me, the majority of Bahamians live in the country of Nassau.
Nursing is a noble and very important profession. Nurses do more than change patients and throw out bed pans. Qualified nurses are in short supply in the first world countries. The US has a very aggressive recruiting program.
Nursing studies is not easy jack. I Know a young lady who finish her bachelor's and passed her nursing registration exams last year. I know somebody whose daughter is working as a nurse in the US making a high six figure salary.
Nurses are fed-up with conditions they work under in the public system, also with the salary and benefits. This problem has been doing on for years .Nurses have migrated from this country and double and sometimes triple their salaries in the US.

FNM supporters are saying how good this budget is. Yet they can't say, explain or know how this increased debt will be serviced.
