Bahamians only vote and complain. That is the extent of their involvement in this democracy. A white bahamian told me,bahamians vote based on emotions. They can't look at and compare the proposed policies of the parties and vote based on that. There is also quite a race and class politics in the Bahamas. There is also a large percentage of voters who are both poorly educated and not exposed to life beyond New Providence. The niece of a former FNM leader said that.
Both daily papers have their biases. Unknown to this writer, the Guardian generally supports the FNM..Some of their editors are anti-Minnis. That is something a lot of Bahamians don't understand.People who support the FNM yet are anti-Minnis..The same with the PLP..I know somebody who is a supporter of the PLP yet is very much ant-Davis and Mitchell.
Mr.Johnson was known to be a fervent supporter of the PLP. One of Lynden Pindling's blue-eyed boys. The media in the Bahamas continues to lag behind their caribbean counterparts. Journalists here don't know or are able to write about the contributions of various persons, when they passed.to national development
A bahamian intellectual living aboard said that the Bahamas should become a federation. Each island grouping would be self-governing with real local government. However he said, that would be strongly resisted. He said despite all the chaos and failures the county is experiencing, their are persons quite happy. They make their money i n this system.
This proposed bill was drafted and presented to various government FNM and PLP some time back. The new version of the bill will reduce the independence of the procurement council. Also reduce the amount of the set-asides for SMSE enterprises.Mr .Hartnell ,you need to ask questions.
Both major political parties operate alike. They cynically oppose things wile in opposition. When they gain the government, they then support these things. It was seen with the PLP with the Atlantis development.
