The public transportation system on this island needs to be revamped. On several occasions,on acoming back from away, some taxi drivers refused my fare at that airport. Many taxi drivers don't transport bahamians
This man wants to be Prime Minister of the Bahamas. His remarks and attitude just confirmed my opinion of him.He needs to be purged, jettisoned and just dumped by the PLP if they are serious about reform. But they won't. He just said openly what the rest of the people in the party thinks.
Sometimes i become despondent when I think about how we are living in this country. My mother who is not part of the elite, got her water turned off for owing over two hundred dollars. She did not get her bills in the mail. She was told that was no excuse. She paid the bill and reconnection fee. Enough is enough, this foolish has to stop . The small people are being squeezed daily.
This bill being presented is in a response to a privy council ruling. This seeks to update an old law from 1972.The FNM opposed the bill while in opposition and now as the government is basically trying to pass the same bill with a new amendments. On a next note, some of their appointments to key positions are very troubling. I don't get it. This is not the mark of a government committed to good governance.
The WTO is the successor body to the GATT.(General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade). It is a rule making body that governs international trade. The Bahamas not being a member hurt the plastics factory in Freeport who when exporting items to Mexico, found their products were taxed at a higher rate. It affected their sales. You don't know what future industries will be dveloped in the Bahamas. The Bahamas should have joined years ago. But like in so many areas, we have lagged behind our regional counterparts.
Homes on Ragged Island should be rebuilt. Many of the residents don't want to stay any where eelse. The homes will have to be built to the building code. It can be a model for other islands.
As the day follows the night, the day that income tax is suggested for the Bahamas Government hto implement has arrived. I was told by several persons in the know this will happen. We collectively brought this on ourselves. Don't blame the IMF. Years of economic mismanagement by successive governments, a stagnant and outdated economic model and irresponsible populace. It is going to be rough.Add to that an inexperienced Financial Secretary and a Finance Minister who seems out of place.
The Ministry of Works has consistently under performed in the maintenance on this island. They need to take some lessons from the department of works in the US city, where sister lives.
