How long did the so called 'experts' from New Zealand say the ramp up and education time for VAT was needed...wasn't it a couple years?? Government should be at full steam with conducting seminars and going from business to business to assess readiness. Going to be the same thing as what's going on with Customs at the moment, they impose a deadline and the government end of the equation fails and collapses because no one is ready. VAT starting January 1st (A public holiday no less) will be a complete disaster.
No matter which way you slice it, it is not good. My only question as it pertains to the 'maths' in this article is this...

$20,000 x 12 months is $240,000 a year...
"It take us $500,000 a year to run this home and take care of these kids and currently we have $37,000 in our account so you do the math."
So which is it...a quarter million or a half million to run the place for a year?
As I said, it's all sort of irrelevant, because it is bad news either way, but let's get the math right.
I do agree that the minimum wage is stupidly low just now, and in our business of nearly 200 people the MOST basic job does not even get minimum wage and even at that the lowest wage is probationary and gets bumped up after the probation period...but to double it and then some...get the buck out of here. We will shut our doors and put a couple hundred long term employees out to pasture...
The nutter is off his rocker!! It's really quite simple...don't live beyond your means...and that means kids as well!! If you can't afford to support 2...or 4...or 6 kids...don't have them in the first place!! Double the minimum wage...get the buck out of here!!
It's sweeping through the entire Caribbean and almost 100% certainty we will get hit with it. As stated in the article, 17 different countries in the Caribbean, including Turks and Caicos...and the US as well...without a doubt, we will get it. Let the fun begin! Government needs to start fogging on a regular basis, try to knock some of these little critters out of the air ASAP...as residents we need to do our part as well and make sure there is nothing on our property that is collecting water in which these mosquitoes can breed. Any random pots or buckets or containers, turn them upside down or make sure they are emptied out on a regular basis.
