All we have to do is kick Dame Marguerite out of the Prime Ministers residence.

The costs and training and implementation of providing the coverage...and therefor charging for use of our airspace, to the level that the US is doing at the moment for us, is seriously cost prohibitive. Our current ATC guys are overworked and underpaid and constantly battling system issues...and that's just in and around Nassau...they expect for us to provide all this extra cover, with added ATC guys that are disgruntled anyways...and to top it all off, we have no infrastructure in place...buying in all the extra radar equipment and radio equipment, probably having to create a new control room of sorts for the airspace ATC guys will cost us a small fortune. For a country that is broke, do we really want to spend hundreds of millions of dollars AGAIN, to fight for the chance of being able to charge people for our airspace, and even at that the payback and recouping of the costs will take decades to pay back. Common sense people...leave it be.

You missed that snippet from the PM then...he suddenly realized that he was grossly underpaying Mr. Lightbourne for his services...in other words, he gave him a healthy raise, out of the governments payroll/bankroll...AKA the tax payers money bailed this man out of his home. Significant enough of a raise that he could make a payment to the bank I would presume...probably retroactively adjusted his salary up to give him a bonus of sorts to allow for a lump sum payment.

People need to learn that their actions have consequences...if that means your actions cause the rest of your family in your home some inconveniences, then GOOD...maybe the family members can lay enough of a guilt trip in the idiot who felt it appropriate to threaten someone with death and hold them hostage that it will never happen again. I back the concept 110%...yank that meter off the wall and make them go through the pain and frustration of re-applying for a meter.

The big flaw in this plan is that there is no guarantee as to when the taxes will get paid. In theory, when a sale of the property goes through all RPT is brought forward as a condition of sale and clear title of the land/building...but you never know when that sale will happen...if someone owes excessive amounts of RPT, they just may not bother to sell that land or building...so there is no real guarantee that the money will come in on a timely fashion. I think you will find a lot of foreign owned properties will not pay the RPT so that if and when they do sell, the NET profits from the sale after the deduction of the owed RPT lowers the reported amount back to the tax man in their home country and lowers their tax burden back at home. So it is a win win situation for them to NOT pay RPT here in the Bahamas until they draft up the paperwork for the sale of the property.
