They brought laws in that matter to THEM...more taxes and political favours by legalizing the numbers racket. So let's encourage Bahamians to gamble and lose the little money they are earning, and if they don't lose it in the gambling houses, they are going to lose it to the damn tax man. Well done governance.
When you have something that is mission critical, you have fail safes and back ups. But hey, this is government run now, chances are all the backups and failsafes had already failed and no one bothered to fix or maintain anything, which is the way this government works...don't address anything until it is completely broken down and beyond repair.
I still say that if NHI goes ahead that all private medical coverage for any government official or employee ceases. MP's...the PM...the lot...they are all forced to use the NHI like everyone else. No exceptions.
Let the good Bishop and the church jump off of some of their funds. Time to remove the tax and duty exemptions on churches...then let's see how they start crying about taxation.
The UK system is not much better, have numerous family over there that also wait MONTHS for specialist care. Some have waited a year or more for knee and hip repairs. If you have a busted knee that has disabled you, should that person have to wait nearly a year just for the consultation on what to do with it?? Then another 6+ months to repair the ACL? Nearly 2 years as well for a hip replacement. We are convinced that the NHS is playing a waiting game in hopes that the patients croaks before they actually have to do the serious work. Unless you have something life threatening that gets dealt with in the E.R. (which is also a several hour wait)...don't expect anything efficient about it at all.
