As debate rages over whether this act of vandalism was justified, it is pretty clear from the more extensive Videos of this event that Michael “The Ark Angel” was most likely either on drugs or suffering from mental instability … and as much as we may wish to debate the ramifications of his actions, we should be careful to attribute “intent” to what he did.
The ultimate irony of this Country … a Statute commissioned by Abolitionist Governor Carmichael … and paid for by Black Slaves … destroyed by a Free Black Man near 200 years later without any clue of History … March on Bahama Land, March on …
History is just that …. “history” … whether good or bad … nonetheless “history”, which must be understood in order to progress as a human race. On the one hand, the original inhabitants of these Islands are long gone as a result of “discovery” by Christopher Columbus … BUT on the other hand we are “ALL” (irrespective of race or nationality) here today as a result of such “discovery” … and with a Tourist Economy based on principally based on Sun, Sand and Sea … and now Swimming Pigs … we should exploit “the fact” that he landed here, whilst at the same time effectively communicating “the good and bad” of such “discovery” … as again it is “history” and we are in a unique position to tell it to the World … without the use of a Sledge Hammer, which has caused much embarrassment to many Bahamians.
