I hope someday we can Make Bahamians Think Again and not call everyone a racist who stands for border security. Honestly, the amount of times I have heard the "Fake News" of Tribune posters call the US president racist is silly. Will Bahamians call every white president after Obama a racist simply for being white? It seems likely. What do they want, America to be run completely by blacks, really?
The South China Sea has woken the US to the importance of islands as a means of controlling large aquatic areas. The islands of the Caribbean are now of great concern for US national security, due to their ability to be transformed into logistic outposts for China's navy. Aquatic spacial dominance and the natural resources under the seabed are the new currency.
The US underestimated how corrupt the Caribbean post colonial governments are and how willing they would be to sell their countrymen out to China for a few million in a Swiss bank account. The US is just now waking up to the value of island land masses as tactical game changers in 3 dimensional chess.
I blame the distance between the US and The Bahamas more on the poor negotiation skills of our black leaders and "bend or break" attitude they took in the past. Based on our level of trade with and dependence on the US, The Bahamas should have a much better relationship with them. We should be like two peas in a pod; instead, black leaders have continued to perpetuate an anti-white, "Wakonda forever!" fantasy world. If you asked our leaders, many consider Jamaica, Haiti and Africa to be closer allies of ours than the US!
The Bahamas is foolish to think it can play both sides. I've heard China is the most racist country, yet black leaders can't get enough of them. The PLP sold out this country to China and betrayed the US by selling them the Hilton. The Pointe looks more like a military fort than a hotel.
At the end of the day, all of this is one big fat warning by the US to the Caribbean. They're saying, if you get in bed with red China too deep, don't expect us to protect you with our military (the US is The Bahamas' military, as it has none of its own). Further, if you allow red China to build military bases for its warships and submarines that become a security threat to the US, you and your people will be blown up along with their bases.
This would be a good read but remove the dehumanizing language. Your points are valid. The name calling just takes away from your good insights. Also, Karl Marx was a genius. Just because his ideas do not work for human society, doesn't make him insignificant to political thought.
You can be sure China will want to know what Trump says to Minnis in Mar-a-lago. PM better check his computer for hacks and sweep his house for bugs on his return.
Agreed. This is an outrage!!! Imagine if the Haitian Embassy had done this? Bahamians would be outraged. But with China everyone just accepts this rudeness and breach in diplomatic protocol.
This is a good example why NOT to do local building projects with foreign governments in general and China specifically. If a private company (foreign or otherwise) had built Baha Mar, the National Stadium and The Pointe, there would be no comment when our public officials met with the US. There wouldn't be a peep! However, because a foreign government is directly involved in these business projects, they have developed a sense of ownership and control over our national politics and affairs like a jealous lover. This is not healthy!!! Business projects should be governed by legal contracts and economics, not on foreign policies and embassy interference.
