Let's not forget how Bahamian workers operate when on the job.

Joe Blow shows up at work around 10am when he was suppose to be there for 8am, he then takes a hour to get set up, leaving him with one hour in which to work before he jumps off at 12pm for lunch. He then takes a 2 hour lunch and comes back at somewhere after 2pm. He works for about 2 hours before claiming he needs to go and pick up his children at school for 4pm. Then he is gone all day....but he wants to be paid for an 8hr day. Heaven forbid his employer complains because then he wants to file complaints with the labour unions. Who then claim that Mr. Joe Blow is being overworked and underpayed.

Whereas the Haitian or Mexican who is so grateful to be able to work and send a few dollars home to their family will be at work from 7am, eat lunch while working, and continue on past the knock off time of 5pm and give no complaints when the boss man asks him to do a little extra.

Not saying all Bahamians are like this...but the vast majority of them have this attitude that they are entitled as opposed to be fourtunate they reside in a country where they have the opportunity to work.

Grassroots I am going to go out on a limb here and assume that you have no formal training in regards to landfills. I am positive that Mrs. Wilson has more knowledge about these matters than you, therefore if she says the fumes aren't toxic then I believe I will go with her educated analysis as opposed to your "grassroot" opinion.

Furthermore, I have it on good authority that the government officials are doing their best to get the situation at the landfill under control. However as usual when dealing with government assets it always comes down to politics.

So I suggest before you start commenting on things that you have no credible knowledge about, you may want to do some research.

If we have enough officers where working 3 days per week doesn't put the force in a position where they find themselves short handed, then why not. We have police officers just walking around downtown directing traffic in places where the street light works perfectly fine. And this is because they have so many officers and not enough work.

Schedules can be worked where officers work 12 hr shifts with enough time off to allow for a 40hr week. And honestly who wouldn't benefit from a bit of overtime. So maybe a 48hr week might be a good thing...four days on four days off or two days on two days off. Again if other countries can do it and productive then what the hell is wrong with Bahamians.

Let me first say that it's despicable that a person would hit another human being with a car and not stop. That is just cruel and whoever the person is deserves to be punished.

However on another note you cannot place the blame solely on the drivers. I have been driving down Tonique Williams Darling Highway (Harold Road) and have had pedestrians just step out to cross the road as though they own it. No use of the pedestrian crossing, no looking to see if something is coming, just saunter cross taking their sweet time. Bahamians have no respect for the road. They cross where and when they feel like and then blame the drivers if something happens.

Although on the other hand I have seen Bahamian drivers navigate the roads carelessly. Pulling out of corners with no indication, swerving around other vehicles without checking to even see why they were stopped in the first place.

Overall I believe all Bahamians would benefit from practicing a bit of road courtesy. Because these same Bahamians go to Miami and wouldn't so much as spit on the road if they thought there was a law against it. Yet in our own country with our own people we violate and disrespect the law.

shameful!!!!

It's unfourtunate that Bahamians always claim to want forward progression but when the opportunity is given all they do is complain. To me it's seems like a classic case of "we want to get paid to do nothing". I am very aware of how immigration officers work and to believe that they are on their feet inspecting containers and patrolling the dock for their entire shift is ludacris.

Why must Bahamians always fight change...there is nothing wrong with working a 12 hour shift if you are compensated. The only issue I can see is if they require the officers to work 12 hour shifts and continue to pay them for 8 hours.

The Bahamas needs to regulate certain uniformed departments. Customs and Immigration, Police Officers, Defense Force and whoever else falls under what could be considered homeland security. Maybe taking a page out of the American uniformed services book wouldn't be such a bad idea. They need to implement a pay system based on rank, rate, and time in...so no matter whether you work a 12hr shift or 8hr shift or if needed a 16hr shift you get paid.

And I speak from experience as I was a part of the American military when I say it works just fine...it's also incentive for people to do their job with pride and care.
