This is great stuff for Hollywood. Can already envision a new movie "The Hotel" - amazing comedy potential. The directors/actors could be same like in "The Interview", Randall Park as cca ceo, Seth Rogen as Sarkis, Eddy Murphy as the PM, Martin Lawrence as Freddy...

Can already see Martin Lawrence chasing Seth Rogen on a jetski infront of the Bahamar trying to get his residency card while talking to an investor assuring him that his money is safe if he passes the psychological test.
Wow, first politican i read about here who doesn't make me laugh in a sarcastic or ashamed way. Only guy who get's so it so far, but why is only in the opposition ?
The government keeps spreading poison to investors. Just read the statements made by ministers in the last weeks and look how they handle the case. The Bahamas are simply not competitive to global investors with amateurs leading the country. The decision to get out of the Bahamas or the Bahamar has already been made by Hyatt, Rosewood and Melia. In my personal circle i have already seen multiple investments on a smaller scale fallen through in the last weeks (in ranges from 0.5 to 3 million USD). Your country is rated on how your government handles this case - and sadly the people in charge simply do not do your country any good.
The statements made by politicians actually acknowledge that filing for Chapter 11 was the right thing to do. No-one wants to deal with these amateurs fumbling and messing up your business. Look what it brought the Bahamas, Chapter 11 could be already completed, instead months wasted, Key Expats gone, Rosewood and Grand Hyatt pulling out.
Honestly i believe that this resort will not open in the next 2 years. Not because of mistakes made by CCA or Bahamar, because of the government interfering in the most amateurish way just to suit their own agenda.
It all could be so easy.

Bahamar came up with an additional 200m already, let the Bahamas cover the other half on the basis that the construction has to be finished with bahamian workers - this is what the constructor wants already anyway.

In addition to that the Bahamas will receive a percentage ownership of the Bahamar which will allow them to receive investment returns over the next years. I'm sure the Bahamar would be willing to negotiate the percentage to a degree where it's actually higher than 200m, so for the 200m investment the Bahamas would receive a 300m share in the Bahamar.
Income for the Bahamian workers will be continued to be paid by the Bahamas until completion, Bahamar will cover income for the non-bahamian workers.
If you are too weak and not strong enough to deal with critics without kicking those critics out of your country you shouldn't be in the government at all.
You are actively ruining the economy on a daily basis and the trust that this country is democratic and values free speech, which is the fundamental to democracy.
Just by reading these statements any foreigner who wants to invest into the Bahamas should indeed have a psych test - that's something i agree with you. Most of the ministers i'm reading about here i wouldn't trust to be able to turn hamburgers properly.
i was working on a marketing campaign in germany, switzerland and austria to promote investment opportunities here in the Bahamas. Due to the recent events and actions taken by the government this campaign has now been delayed indefinitely. One of the asset management companies we are working with in Switzerland actually stopped recommending the Bahamas to their clients.
As a foreigner, reading the Tribune or the Nassau Guardian reveals almost every week some shocking statements that just wants you to stay away from this country. Internally investments in the Bahamas have been rated from "stable/low risk" to a "moderate risk".

Threatening foreigners to take their residency away for criticizing the government just confirmed this rating yet again. At this time you simply cannot recommend the Bahamas as a safe and stable investment opportunity.
