I wish a similar investigation could take place focused on PM Christie's relationship with Gerardo Capo and the Resorts World Bimini crooks. No one here on the island doubts that they have been bribing the PM for years.
Tourism can greatly empower people if it is focused and managed correctly. The mega-project strategy of the PLP is a proven disaster, but there are countless examples of Bahamians gaining economic freedom & success from tourism related businesses.
It's pathetic that the Tribune just repeated RWB's own fictitious spin on this story. The facts are that the hugely destructive RWB Superfast FAILED, as so many people predicted.
Both PM Christie and the RWB/Hilton teams said repeatedly that this cruise ship would be the "game changer" that carried all of Bimini to prosperity, and it was all nonsense.
The damage to this island has been unreal, and all for what? What else is Christie going to allow from this corrupt relationship with a failing business?
To the Tribune and all of the Bahamian press, stop printing what they want you to, and do your jobs as journalists.
Not that anyone in the PLP cares, but South Cat Cay is home to numerous threatened reptiles and birds, and also provides nesting habitat for sea turtles. There are significant amounts of sensitive corals close to the island as well.
Bimini is being completely overdeveloped, and the healthy reefs and fisheries that have drawn so many people here will soon be lost forever. Where will all those jobs go then?
PM Christie is not only destroying the environment of The Bahamas, but he's also destroying the reputation of the country as a place where ethical and responsible businesses should invest.
Christie is a megalomaniac. His legacy in Bimini is one of complete disregard for the locals, and complete submission to a despised, corrupt foreign investor.
