The sad truth about this story and some of the comments above...is that the point is being missed badly! I don't think Lightbourn referred to any of them other than what they honestly are thieves/crooks/Country-PIMPS; and he's right to do so, because that's what the HELL they are. We're here debating whether his remarks were inappropriate...but not debating why the defensive and critical barrage intended to shut him up was/is not the topic. Yes...we know why the critical attack on Lightbourn was in full-effect! But seriously, these deceitful-politicians and revolving-governments must stop their unscrupulous behaviors. No answers about BOB allegations of improper lending....no answers about the 650 million dollars Letter Of Intent...no answers/nor confirmed investigation into the $300,000 Bribe Paid To Win Bec Contract....no answers to the confusion/obvious lies/mismanagement/and eventual uncovering of under-the-table dealings in this BAMSI construction dilemma. SMT+SMH....and all that has happened is a bailout--to keep the identities of the idiots a secret in this BOB foolishness, and the patterned sweeping-under-the-rug that these Bahamian Governments are so famous of doing, on each of the others issues.
*In my opinion, Lightbourn didn't fold....he was being honest I assume when he said " I did not mean to make a derogatory remark". In actuality his remark is only derogatory because the proverbial (if the cap fits, wear it) adage, was inflicting unbearable pain in that uncouth place.
@TalRussell....with no disrespect intended, I can care less whether the DNA is a sub-group of the FNM. At this point in our country's demising-state, who gives a rat's behind!; what bothers me, as I can only assume bothers other genuinely concerned Bahamians is the blatant cavalierism, which is continuously demonstrated by our so called "Leaders" no matter the shirt-color, and the repeated lies that spew from their mouths as cover-up for their and their colleague's dubious activities. We have to stop pointing fingers and start accepting the role we play in this carnival-environment.......STOP being politically-tribal and seek a change for our country and its future.
All governments have deficiencies, but the scandalous, larcenous, lascivious, and nonchalant behavior is appalling. The crime is outlandish and seemingly out-of-control, how is it that the monthly average for murders just a month and 9 days (40 days) into the year is about 11/mnth?????? Everyone that holds a "Title" seems to be able to talk--i.e. BS, but don't possess the ability to be individuals of action. It truly is a shame when the writing on the wall is not mere graffiti, but rather a developing portrait that is a master-piece that illuminates the sad reality--which in essence is that we can't govern our own country--and need assistance to do so.
Amen! The problem is not solely the Banks' "indiscriminate-manner of lending" or their lending-principles; it's a combination--the other contributor being the Government's deficiencies to inject or foster any economic growth for the average-Bahamian. "Average-Bahamian", being the masses, that don't have the $ 3,000.00+/mnth salary, that live and are expected to survive pay check-to-pay check. Concessions have to be made to assist the middle-lower/poor classes, although the $ 3,000.00+ salary few, believes that concession shouldn't be...because to them the masses should learn how to budget and save.
BUDGET and SAVE darn WHAT?
Not enough is made to budget nor save, so what are they to do...continue to suffer, whilst you stand aside and scorn and look-down upon them. They're not what's wrong with nor making this country what it is now....the neglect by all in power is!
Does it really matter what party has approached her...if it's even true. But ergo this country's major problem; just about anyone holding a title or heading an office....even with obvious warning signs of dubious behavior is politically-qualified and shown support to continue the BS that is drowning this country. Until the post of AG is no longer a political appointment, these acts of misappropriations/misuse are not overlooked, and the perpetrators (Government Officials and Heads of Trade Unions) are put behind bars for their criminally-heinous acts.....rather than being praise or revered for their boisterious attitudes and belligerent personas; then and only then will we not have the idiots we have in front-line politics nor will we have another set of idiots tooting their own horns of impending political-careers.
@John.....I understand your point, but the problem is not just BEC Union or the workers that Union represents. Bahamians must realize that corruption and duplicitous-behaviour seems to be innate in every sector of our country. Leslie Miller isn't doing anything nor has he done anything for the welfare of the Bahamas, or Bahamian people! John you're here saying or making it seem that (Miller) is fighting the sole transgressors--when in actuality Leslie Miller has been alleged to be, one of...if not the biggest/worse transgressor this country has ever been victimized by. Yes, the overtime situation at BEC is one that was shocking once revealed, but what Leslie Miller has been accused of doing (not just recently), but also over his tenure in frontline politics/holding governmental position is even more egregious. The sad reality is that this type of behaviour (the behaviour that Mr. Maynard is accusing Leslie Miller of partaking), will continue to plague this country, "if someone is abusing their office....why in the HELL is it so difficult for the individuals with the facts or evidence of the wrongdoing, playing the counter-attack game?" If you have evidence of wrongdoing it should be dealt with by this evidence and the facts being brought to light; without being forced or coerced!
All the trifling BS that Leslie Miller and all the other "Country-Pimps---i.e. politicians" have done "allegedly"--and has been overlooked or swept under the governmental-rug, will continue...unless they're all kicked in their behinds out of a window or through a closed door; this is darn-right ridiculous.
@ moncurcool....actually Courts (Judiciary) interpret the laws, the Police (Law Enforcement) enforces the law and Government (Legislative) writes the law. But trust me your point for the reason why the system is failing is correct. Dedication as well as determination is required to correct this predicament....where self-serving behavior and finger-pointing has to stop.
1. “Who must be revealed and made to pay a price for this unforgivable transgression." 2. "I am outraged that such ‘an official’ could criminally manipulate the system for personal gain." 3. "pursued relentlessly.”
With all due respect to Bahamians home and far away...enough with the BS!
* First and foremost, when has revealing any "Transgressor(s)--i.e. Government Official" ever been top-priority for any of the recent Bahamian Governments? *Secondly, when has a "Transgressor(s)--i.e. Government Official" ever PAID any PRICE for the multitude of transgressions they have committed? *Thirdly, what is an "unforgivable transgression", for these "Government Officials"? *Fourthly, most law-abiding Bahamian citizens have been outraged for decades, of the "criminal manipulating" tactics and self-serving antics of these Government Officials. However, the same can not be said for the Government Officials whom have not been caught with their hand--and sometimes hands in the proverbial "cookie Jar". *Finally, when have we had a Government pursue ANY transgressionally deceitful or criminal activity perpetrated by a Government Official?
Really? Let us get real...Freedom Of Information Act, is something that our politicians will always run away from, because integrity is not something all of us have embedded in our souls.
@ SP.....I don't believe that we need to ask any other country for advice. I believe our "Leaders", and I use that term loosely--with no sincere respect, need to take charge of the situation by being proactive and more determined to take control of the crime issue in this country. We sit back as a people and complain about their BS and lack of strategy seemingly toward every issue...however, we as a people refuse to make a non-hypocritical stance against the mediocre and duplicitous manner in which they run this country.
**Not only does the political-landscape in this country need an overhaul, but so does the mindset of its people---we must STOP being Politically-Tribal, and demand practical--country oriented individuals and decision making; rather than the scandal riddled carousel of governments.
Why do we feel that we deserve a reward for everything...SMT--the problem with this act of "appreciation" is, many of these athletes are amatuers which is the requirement to be a student-athlete at any ncaa/naia sanctioned institution. So, be careful what gifts you accept because if you accept anything that by ncaa/naia rules is an infraction, then you will be ruled ineligible by the ncaa/naia certifying clearnghouse. Which can lead to loss of scholarship opportunities as well as eligible-competition years.
