This FNM administration is simply not willing to tackle illegal immigration and the eradication of shantytowns. They cannot be so stupid as to be unable to get illegally built homes and buildings shut down. If so, they all need to resign.
If not, then this exercise is the charade many thought it to be. Like the Jean Rony case, they will comply with whatever Fred Smith demands while appearing to put up a fight. All this so they can then say to the Bahamian people, “our hands are tied.” Illegal shanty towns will sprawl out into perpetuity and Haitian nationals like Rony or whatever his name (or true dob), can work and live freely without fear of apprehension. As per his usual, I bet that Minnis is getting ready to visit that Haitian church this Sunday to low key apologize for giving the appearance of wanting to uphold the laws of the Bahamas.
You sound very unhinged with your outlandish comparisons. Had I said anything truly disturbing you could have flagged it and had it removed. The fact is you are incapable of appreciating simple facts or that someone disagrees with you. Is this a symptom of being breast fed for far too long? I don’t know. I want to enjoy my weekend, so please don’t shoot up the place.
@hrysippus Are you capable of reading or comprehension past your emotions? You are the sociopath here, reading with emotional blinders and projecting your irrational tendencies on to someone else. Adults know that differences in opinion are a reality of life and that emotions have no place in law making. That is why justice is blind. Get the help you need before it is too late. It is actually people like you that are so full of themselves and “passionate” about their cause that hurt and kill other people to defend it. I support law and order.
Of course you do, illegal immigrant enablers always find something “disturbing” or “hateful” about any rational comment regarding illegal immigration. Emotion is the only tool you have, and that is exactly why we have laws. You must still be breastfeeding if you believe in emotions above everything. That is truly disturbing.
With regard to this so called stateless child, if the so called Haitian Bahamians were not so busy playing victims at every turn this girl would not be in this predicament today. Louby Georges encouraged persons of Haitian descent to vote no in the referendum because there was nothing in it for them, he said. Mind you, every other person of Haitian descent claims to have a Bahamian father. Secondly, had they adhered to the 2014 policy and gotten this child a Haitian passport, she would have it today for travel. If one could not be provided to her, that would have made her truly stateless and hence, entitled to Bahamian passport at that time.
Once again, it seems that the mother blatantly ignored the advice to go to the Haitian embassy out of nothing more than misdirected entitlement. Even now, it seems as if they are going about this more importantly to rouse emotions than to get the quickest resolution. Why would the doctor have written a letter to Social Services instead of appealing directly to the minister of immigration? Why demand to speak to the PM and not the minister responsible? The record reflects that the current minister loves using his discretion to grant Haitians whatever documents they need to remain in The Bahamas. It is baffling to me that if this child’s life is truly “hanging in the balance”, as reported, that this mother would use this opportunity to play politics.
I knew that this FNM administration was up to no good from the moment they presented that bogus Shanty town census. They started off already sparing 28 shanty towns and countless illegals and their offspring. Now they will continue to dial back so that the status quo remains the same. I am not surprised at all.
My how we love to gloss over facts. The “support” of which you speak is best described as human trafficking. Harboring and facilitating the passage of illegal immigrants into another country is a crime. Many Bahamians have several generations struggling under the same roof out of necessity as well. There is nothing glamorous about it. People do what they have to do.
There is also nothing to be admired about living in squalid shanty towns for decades and not speaking a lick of English in an English speaking country. That is not progress. People seeking a better life elsewhere don’t resort to living in the same sub standard conditions from which they came (for decades!). But you already knew this. Getting them to assimilate economically, at the very least, is the best and most humane option for all.
@Malcolm60 It is clear that you know nothing about The Bahamas or Bahamian society, only the washed up talking points that are used to justify illegal immigration the world over. Because the elites hire your people at basement prices while they live in the slums, and feed their egos by telling them they work harder than Bahamians, does not make it fact. Have you done any comparison to show that illegal immigrants benefit the Bahamas more than they benefit? Fill the islands up with people and that is beneficial in and of itself? You have no idea, only your biased opinion to guide your simple comments. Stop trying to sound intelligent with this British drivel when it is clear that you can't even comprehend the difference between facts and opinions.
The St. Lucian/Haitian talking about utter bunk, balderdash and you lot? You sound more preoccupied with British pretentiousness than any Bahamian I know. The problem with telling lies is that eventually you believe them. You first need to see past your arrogant condescending tirade of lies before you can make any valuable input into this discussion.
What violence? What public humiliation? Once again you illegal immigrant enablers encourage this victim mentality amongst Haitians which is probably one other reason why they don't try to do better. The only group they can be reasonably compared to are the Haitians doing the same thing in the DR and TCI. No one forces them to live in shanty towns and if Bahamian landlords will accept the pittance they pay in "rent", I am quite sure they would be even more willing to accept rent at market value. They came for a better life they say. It is a shame that fire has to be put under them to do just that.
