you must be joking, one of the largest pieces of prime land this side of the planet? You must be on PLP drugs
This country is a sh*# hole and getting worse by the day, but even in its prime our land was nothing but barely above sea level and baron, certainly not prime on the scale of the region, much less the hemisphere.

Why is everyone talking fool about the BSD. Nothing can be accomplished by fooling / chaining the currency situation.

Wanna fix the problems, then throw out all the thieves, out of government and throw them in jail, then go after all the crooked business people and lock them up.

Then and only then can we begin to build a sustainable economy.

I'm really surprised the poor gangsters shooting poor gangsters is the only murder problem here. One day, people might aim at the real criminals, and then the bullets will start piercing the flesh of those who really deserve it! I wouldn't want to be on either end of a gun shot, but can't say I'd be surprised if shooters start shooting at different targets????

When you exceed your total national budget by over 50%, and think this is reasonable.......

Just imagine if you made 50 grand a year, but your personal expenses were 75 grand, so you borrow 25 grand to get by on. How many years can you make this scenario work.

Interesting how these ruling A**holes claim to be religious / god fearing etc etc, yet they are really out and out criminals, liars , etc etc

This article shows just how low we are as a society. Any suggestion that an issue like this needs a referendum is disgraceful, and any pig who suggest this is an issue that requires a vote should be pissed on in public. I know , I know many a bahamian man is still glad to be living in a country where he can rape his wife legally, another Bahamian disgrace!

I suggest that anyone who doesn't work towards fixing the laws to recognize women as equals immediately should never be allowed to hold office again, and additionally they should be publicly shamed every time they show their face until they day they expire.

It's ridiculous to think that VAT can be absorbed by customers. The pie is only so big and government just took 7.5% off the top- that money has to come from somewhere, and there is only one pie.

For GDP growth to offset the VAT, the GDP growth must first surpass the rate of inflation. We all know that inflation on most consumer goods is in the 7%-10% range these last few years. GDP growth is somewhere in the 1-2% range at best, and therefore the economy is actually shrinking.

As an example of this effect: 2014 AML Foods sells 100,000 loaves of bread at $3.00 each, total sales of bread = $300,000.00

2015 AML sells $306,000.00 worth of bread, 2% increase of gross bread sales (similar to GDP growth rate). But the inflation (using 7%) has the bread price at $3.21 per loaf. So reality is that the $306,000.00 in sales in this example, divided by the price of new price of bread due to inflation, $3.21 per loaf, = 95,327 loaves of bread. Thus we have a reduction in units sold (year over year ) and a shrinking economy, as less loaves of bread are bought.
When the growth of the pie (i.e. GDP) is less than the inflation rate, you have no control over the shrinking sales volume in all industry. While fuel and other commodities are fluctuating, most consumer goods are going up in price at an alarming rate.

Inflation is really currency devaluation, mainly due to the "printing of money" by governments. Obviously market sentiment has an effect on currency values, as investors flock to the USD it tends to shore up its value to some degree, despite all their money printing stimulus packages.

But no thinking individual can deny the real inflation rates far exceed what government propaganda suggests. All governments are in a race to the bottom with their insatiable appetites for debt and resulting increased need of taxes to fund the debt.

One can clearly see that we need to work on real GDP growth, to the point it exceeds actual inflation rates before we can begin to absorb the effects of VAT. Short of this, anyone who thinks VATs appearance in our economy will be absorbed is a wishful thinker.

Our economic pie is only so big, and there is only one, enjoy the view as business and government jockey and fight for their pieces of the pie..........

Hey John

What's your rant about guns got to do with anything? You telling me you don't know about hotel workers raping tourists? You saying you have not heard about this?

We all know what happens here, we also know that our taxi drivers are extremely rude at the airport, we know that our service we provide is crap, our products and food are crap. Our general population work ethic is crap , etc etc etc

If that weren't all true, we'd have a booming & thriving economy, but we don't.

Men having babies with all different kinda woman, women forced to leave kids unsupervised because they gotta eek out a living to feed them cause their men aint no where to be found. Murder robbery on every corner, most committed by young men less than 25.
A blonde girl walking down the street is treated like a piece of meat by any and all of our men who cross her path. This place aint safe no more, you know it, I know, God knows it!
