No, I don’t believe any such thing. Quite the contrary. But what I do believe in is reality — not ill-informed, hyper-partisan emotional ranting, from either end of the political spectrum. And if you somehow believe that Cavalier Construction lacked political connections ... well, I’ve got a nice bridge to sell you in Brooklyn.

Respectfully, Mudda, an organization of the size, complexity and history of Cavalier doesn’t just collapse within 2 years. The downward spiral for an outfit like that takes much longer.

Agree. I don’t care what a criminal has done, if he’s locked up in a supposedly civilized nation, he deserves at minimum a toilet that flushes. We can’t achieve this? Really? It doesn’t even require electricity, which we can’t guarantee, either. So, so sad.

Reading carefully, one should recognize that $975 million of that total is offered in the form of “available financing” — also known as “loans.” Loans, by definition, are expected to be paid back, with interest — a concept that hasn’t always been mastered hereabouts. We all know the track record in these latitudes for paying back loans.

That’s nearly 2/3 of the $1.5 billion that Dr. Minnis and The Tribune are crowing about, and much of the rest is “in-kind services.” Try tar-papering your roof with “in-kind services.”

I once got into a property-line dispute in the Out Islands. My Nassau lawyer said that if we fought it in court, it would take about 5 years and $50K in legal expenses. The adjacent property owner faced the same issue, as we’d both been screwed by the previous property owner.

We got together as friends, solved the basic issue ourselves, but still had to have the property re-surveyed and the new plat registered in Nassau. Cost several thousand $$. As this was a pretty simple deal, I can only imagine what a nightmare it would be among the wreckage in Abaco. It’ll take *decades* to sort it all out.
